2 2018 Volunteer of the Year Winners are announced Kenneth Coon Victory Lifetime Service Award- Bill Jordan- A lifelong resident of Smyrna, Bill attended Smyrna Schools and played football for coach Raikes. He has been a lifelong member of Division Street Church of Christ where he has served on the finance committee, chaired the missions committee, and guided multiple missions to Siberia. He has been a Deacon and currently serves as an Elder for the church. Bill has assisted the Town of Smyrna in many projects that led to the addition of greenways and parks currently a part of the Smyrna community. Bill has also been a stalwart of the youth sports community in Smyrna, where he has coached both football and soccer as well as served multiple terms on the board for North Rutherford Soccer/Stones River Futbol club acting as both treasurer and president. Bill has been instrumental in the growth and success of the soccer program in Smyrna. Bill Jordan is a deserving recipient of the Lifetime Service Award honor. Young Leader of the Year- Ashley Barrientos- A senior at Smyrna High School, Ashley represents the best qualities of a student and young woman. A captain of the girls soccer team, which she led to back to back district championships. She achieved this success while exceling in the classroom even with a difficult and rigorous class schedule. Ashley was elected Best All Around by her peers, among many other accolades. Coach of the Year- Warren Garner A coach with the Smyrna Fastpitch League, is an excellent role model for his players who is sure to teach all of the girls to with patience and respect. He carries this same attitude with not only his players of the multiples teams in multiple age groups that he coaches, but with the girls of other teams as well. We are proud to have Warren Garner as our Coach of the Year for 2018! Parent of the Year- Katrina Jones - Katrina Jones, a parent volunteering for the last two years with the Smyrna Fastpitch League, immediately jumped and became a team mom. Katrina was then nominated to serve as a board member where she currently holds the role of team mom director and lower division commissioner. She is always willing to help in whichever role is asked of her no matter how big or small the task. We are excited to have Katrina Jones as our Parent of the Year for 2018!

January 11 th Family Fun Night Frozen Winter Celebration! Make some snow with your favorite winter characters! Elsa, Anna, and Olaf invite you for a winter celebration at the SOAC! We will sing, dance, eat snacks, make crafts and frozen experiments, while supplies last. Costumes are encouraged! Let s learn to S-P-E-L-L-! We will sound out words, practice some tricky suffixes, and finish the day with a spelling bee! January th Preschool Mouse Count See what these silly mice are up to in their adventure book Mouse Count. Mice are playing and have to watch out for snakes. January 19 th Public Program Smyrna Strokes Adult s Night Join us at the Train Depot to paint a snowy night landscape with a step-by-step instruction. All supplies will be provided. 4 PROGRAM SCHEDULE January 20 th Public Program Campfire and Total Lunar Eclipse Join the SOAC staff around the campfire for a chance to view the blood moon total lunar eclipse as well as enjoy yummy s mores! The partial eclipse will start at 9:30 and the total eclipse runs from 10:40 to 11:40. Be sure to dress warmly! Location: Sharp Springs Natural Area, 1000 Espey Drive Fire pit located behind the Green Building. Time: 9:00PM 11:45PM Cost: $2 Ages: All Ages Registration suggested through Community Pass Food is first come, first serve. EVENT IS CANCELLED IF IT RAINS January 21 st Public Program Martin Luther King Jr. SOAC will be open from 10:00am 4:00pm with climbing, programs and activities for your holiday out of school.
