1 OAK LODGE PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER I am sending out an early newsletter this month, in order to wish you all a very happy New Year and to share with you, some of the events from the end of last term. I have also included the results from the recent parent questionnaire. We look forward to welcoming many of you in to school for this week s coffee mornings and workshops. Mr Apsley, Headteacher SOME ASPIRATIONS FOR BY YEAR 2 In assembly, we have been thinking about our new year s resolutions, so here are some of them from Year 2: "My new year s resolution is to get better at using inverse and to be a better friend to other people." Leila, Kingfishers "I want to get better at writing." Charlie, Owls "My new year s resolution is to get better at numeracy." Oliver, Robins NURSERY UPDATE "My new year s resolution is to make my room tidy." Jasmine, Robins "I want to get better at Maths." Ruby, Owls "I would like to get better at the piano with Mr Scott." Harry, Kingfishers Thank you to all the parents who provided feedback upon the nursery proposal. With regard to the school s position of a potential development, Governors have explored this possibility in detail and it has been decided not to proceed with this project at this time. FRENCH NATIVITY PLAY At the very end of the term, we had a French nativity play at Oak Lodge. Well done to all the children from Years 3-6 that worked so hard with Mrs Smith, to put on that performance and thank you Mrs Smith for organising it. 2 FRENCH NATIVITY PLAY On Thursday 17th December we did a French nativity. It was funny since some of the audience did not understand. I was a granny, telling the story to the grandchild. I was terrified at first but then I felt better when I realised it was so much fun and I was lucky to be in a FRENCH nativity! At the end they gave everyone a certificate which I am so proud of. Altogether we had a great time and everyone was AMAZING! I loved it so much. Thaïs Plomion 4A...this is a Nativity, but no ordinary Nativity, a French Nativity! At the start we had to practise our lines and we had to know where we were standing. First of all we thought it was hard, but then we got the hang of it. The next step was to find our costumes. I was a shepherd, Adam was a narrator/ grandson and Jamie was also a shepherd. That is just the start! After we knew where we were meant to be standing and our lines, it was time for the dress rehearsal. It was the last day and we had to get cracking on getting all the props gathered together. Then it was time for the show! If you saw it, you would have liked it. After we performed the nativity everyone got a certificate. Alex Chamberlain and Adam Webster The French play was awesome. I played the innkeeper. I loved the experience but it was a bit embarrassing at times. My whole family said to keep it up and were all proud of me, even I was proud of myself. The props and the costumes were fabulous. Aliesha Thambirajah 4A When we did it to the infants I felt so nervous... me, Caitlyn and Shiloh played the part of the kings. When we finished the play we got a French certificate. It was such fun. Nymah Belafonte 3B I felt a little bit nervous but also a little confident. All my friends were there looking at us and our costumes. Shiloh Manoukou-Kombo 3B I thought people were going to laugh, but Mrs Smith made me have confidence and believe in myself. I tried to work hard and practise my French. My line was Voici de l or! Caitlyn-Rose Reid 3B 2
3 YEAR 6 WORLD WAR 2 MUSEUM Over the Autumn Term we ve been doing a project on World War 2. We ve learnt a great deal about the war and how it affected the lives of people living through it. At the end of term we spent two weeks modelling and crafting, writing and researching, to create a museum of artefacts. Ella and I created a British TOG2 tank made from cardboard and velvet. Others made bombed houses, bombs, boats and battlefields. On the day of the museum, we all dressed in our WWII costumes to welcome children from reception to year 5, parents and also elderly members of the community. I personally think that I most enjoyed showing the elderly people round as many had lived through the war. Olivia Stone 6L On Tuesday 15th December we opened our museum and the energetic rush flushed through our bodies. As we lined up one by one we were paired up with some visitors to show round. All of year 6 were dressed up and looked amazing. The classroom was full of poems, models and pictures. Maxime and I went to all three classrooms and took a number of great pictures. It was a great day and I will never forget it. Jude Rose 6L Our class made lots of things to show to the rest of the school. We showed year 3 around and by the time they left, they had a much better understanding of WWII. We also showed the elderly people round. They were telling us their first hand experiences of the war and loved all the models. Gary Thomson 6L 3

This feedback really helps the school to help identify which areas you feel we are performing well in and to identify our next steps for further improvement. While we are very pleased with the highly positive response overall, there are areas for further improvement. As next steps, the Senior Management Team and Governors have been reviewing the responses to the questionnaires and these are used to help form the school development plan. Thank you for your help and support in this regard. PRAISE BOARD Please let your class teacher know if your child has some news that could be shared on our Praise Board. As well as Oak Lodge successes, we like to celebrate their out-of-school achievements too. These could be related to a hobby, a significant sporting or musical achievement, an act of bravery, kindness or charity. 4
