6 1. The number of K-6 elementary schools for the Almonte feeder group of schools be reduced from three to two schools with the closure of Pakenham Public School. Draft Recommendations Almonte Feeder Group 2. Geographically, students from Pakenham School attend R. Tait McKenzie School for grades K-6 in accordance with one attendance boundary that matches the Early Immersion boundary currently in place at R. Tait McKenzie School. 3. Pending ongoing interest, R. Tait McKenzie and Naismith Schools continue to offer Early Immersion as a complement to their Regular French/English Programs.
7 Draft Recommendations Carleton Place Feeder Group 1. Caldwell School be closed at a future date to be determined and contingent upon Ministry approval for an addition at Arklan School or re-build of Caldwell School in accordance with the UCDSB Capital Priorities Plan. 2. Effective September 2017, a single dual track attendance boundary be introduced for each of Arklan and Caldwell Street Schools, in accordance with a phase-in/out process to confirm enrolments for organizational planning.
8 Draft Recommendations Perth Feeder Group 1. North Elmsley Public School be closed with the consolidation of a western portion of its current attendance boundary with The Stewart School and an eastern portion of its current attendance boundary consolidated with Chimo (Smiths Falls feeder group) School. 2. Glen Tay Public School be closed and consolidated with Queen Elizabeth School. 3. Maple Grove School be closed and consolidated with Drummond School, (date to be confirmed).
9 Draft Recommendations Perth Feeder Group 4. A southern portion of the current attendance boundary for Drummond School be consolidated with The Stewart School 5. A single dual track attendance boundary be introduced at each Perth feeder group of elementary schools in accordance with a phase-in/out process to confirm enrolments for organizational planning
10 Draft Recommendations Rideau Feeder Group 1. Effective September 2017, the number of K-6 elementary schools for the Rideau feeder group of schools be reduced from four to three schools with the closure of Rideau Centennial School. 2. The attendance boundary for Rideau Centennial School be consolidated with South Crosby P.S.
11 Draft Recommendations Rideau Feeder Group 3. Sweet s Corners School be closed (future date to be confirmed) pending Ministry approval for facility upgrades at South Crosby School per the UCDSB Capital Priorities Plan, thus reducing the number of K-6 elementary schools for the Rideau feeder group of schools from three to two schools.
12 Draft Recommendations Smiths Falls Feeder Group 1. The number of elementary schools for the Smiths Falls feeder group of schools be reduced from 5 schools to 4 schools with the closure of Wolford School. 2. The current attendance boundary for Wolford School be consolidated with Chimo School, with the exception of an eastern portion that will be consolidated with Merrickville School (North Grenville Feeder group). 3. Grade 7-8 students for the Smiths Falls feeder group of schools attend Smiths Falls DCI as a grades 7-12 school as previously approved by the Board through the Boundary 2020 Review.
13 Draft Recommendations Smiths Falls Feeder Group 1. An eastern portion of the attendance boundary for North Elmsley School (Perth Feeder group) be consolidated with Chimo School. 4. A single dual track attendance boundary be introduced at each Smiths Falls feeder group elementary school in accordance with a phasein/out process to confirm enrolments for organizational planning.
14 Context for the Accommodation Review The UCDSB has a roster of schools with almost 10,000 vacant pupil places The Ministry of Education funding for operating this vacant student space is declining The UCDSB has embarked on a Pupil Accommodation Review process, with the goal of reducing the amount of excess space to more efficiently direct its funding to the kinds of learning experiences our communities expect now and into the future
15 The purpose of the Accommodation Review Committees (ARCS) Accommodation Review Committees (ARCs) provide local information and context that will inform the completion of a final staff report to be submitted to the Board on February 15, 2017 The Board will decide its response to the recommendations of the Final Staff Report on March 23, 2017
16 The Role of the ARC The role of the ARC is to act as a conduit of information to assist the review process as a whole The essential mandate of the ARCs is to obtain information from their respective school communities in response to the Initial Staff Report, in order to assist the decision-making responsibilities of the Board of Trustees
17 ARC Membership 1 parent/guardian and 1 alternate parent/guardian from each elementary school impacted by the draft recommendations (selected by the respective school councils) 2 parents/guardians and 2 alternate parents/guardians from each Grades 7 to 12 school impacted by the draft recommendations (selected by the respective school councils) 1 elementary school principal 1 secondary school principal 1 superintendent of schools
18 The Initial Staff Report: Draft Recommendations This staff report represents a starting point for discussion The recommendations are draft only The ARC receives feedback on these recommendations This input will help the senior staff to prepare a final report This final report will be presented to the Board of Trustees on February 15, 2017 Final decision of the Board will be made on March 23, 2017
19 Public Meetings The public meetings will provide a face-to-face opportunity to receive information in a similar format to the on-line survey for the accommodation review All feedback will be given equal consideration, regardless if it has been submitted through the survey and/or through public delegations Delegations may also be heard by the Board of Trustees on March 2nd
20 Opportunity for Statements from the Audience Members of the audience will be invited to make statements related to the ARC s focus on scenarios relating to school closure, rebuilding of schools, and/or the consolidation of pupil spaces. These statements may be up to a maximum of 3 minutes in length, and will be included as part of the public record for the attention of, and consideration by members of the Accommodation Review Committee. Please note, these statements would be received and recorded this evening, then reviewed and discussed at the next working meeting of the ARC.
