3 4-H NEWS PIONEER CHRISTMAS VILLAGE Each year the Pioneer Village at the Fairgrounds comes alive with Christmas lights and music during the Holiday season! The Christmas Village committee puts together a fantastic place for families to visit on the first two weekends of December! They couldn t do this without the support of all of you! They greatly appreciate those clubs that can help pass out hot chocolate and popcorn, decorate trees and most importantly those that donate homemade cookies! They invite each club to donate 15 dozen cookies to the cause. This helps keep their costs down so they can do things like put new LED lights on the roof of the Round Barn. The Christmas Village Committee thanks you for your efforts! Please contact Bonita Davison ( ) with questions about cookie drop off times at Century Hall. THEY DO NOT GET DROPPED OFF AT THE EXTENSION AND OUTREACH OFFICE! Leaders have received more details about tree decorating and cookies! STATE TRAINING FOR ALL LEADERS Each year all 4-H leaders are required to take part in an educational training from the State 4-H Office to further develop their exceptional skills of working with youth. This year s training will take place on Tuesday, February 26 at the Extension and Outreach Office. Supper will be served at 6:15 p.m. with the training from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Please RSVP to xplymouth@iastate.edu THERE S AN APP FOR THAT! Have you loaded the Plymouth County 4-H App on your phone yet? Have the calendar, latest newsletter, and get reminders all right at your fingertips on your phone! In your app store search for Plymouth County 4-H! It s that easy! 3 CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS TRIP Celebrate the 60th Year of CWF in 2019! Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) is a 4-H leadership and civic engagement program for high school youth (completed grades 9-12 at the time of the trip). Each summer teens gather at the National 4-H Conference Center to learn what it means to be a strong leader in their community, country, and world. Iowa 4-H ers will travel to DC June 14-22, Deadline to register is January 15, Space is limited to first 48 delegate registrations. Trip cost is $1850. This includes all lodging, travel, tours, and a majority of meals. A $650 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is two payments of $600 each due on March 1 and April 15, The 4-H & Youth Committee will put $250 towards the total cost and the Plymouth County 4-H Foundation puts $100 into the total cost. We do organize county wide fundraisers to assist with the cost. Typically we ve been able to cover half of the trip cost with the donations and fundraisers. Please don t let the cost turn you away! This is a trip of a lifetime! Objectives for the program are: Strengthen communication, leadership, and other citizenship skills on a national level Understand the importance of civic and social responsibilities as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders Exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships with other youth from diverse backgrounds Experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of our nation s capital city, Washington, D.C. These objectives are met through pre-trip education, speakers, workshops, daily excursions to view national sites, a day at the Capitol with elected officials, and a delegate designed and implemented action plan. 3
4 4-H ENROLLMENT FOR ALL MEMBERS AND LEADERS The 4-H Online enrollment system rolled over on September 1. All existing members and leaders in the system become inactive. Everyone must log in and re-enroll for the current year! The website is: This must be done each year, just like you would enroll in school or update your records at a doctor s visit. If your family already exists in the system, DO NOT CREATE A NEW PROFILE! *IF THE MEMBER WAS A CLOVER KID WE HAVE THEIR LOG IN INFO. THEY SHOULD CONTACT US AND NOT CREATE A NEW PROFILE! We can look up your log on , but we can not see passwords. If you forgot your password, just click I forgot my password and a new one will be ed to you. As you work through the screens be sure to double check spellings, grades, birthdates, etc. Several of you informed us of errors in this information when making a fair entry this past fair...that information all comes from what you put into 4-H Online...so now is the time to get it corrected! If your member is 18 years old, they are still a youth! Do not enroll them as an adult or you will be re-doing it! 4-H Online enrollment is only for 4-H members in grades 4-12 and club leaders! Clover Kids should not enroll in this system at this time...we will follow up directly with them on instructions! For brand new families, first create a new profile and then proceed through the screens of adding youth members. We do have a help sheet on our website. The last screen will appear to be a payment screen. We pay that fee so just continue through until you get to the submit button. No fee will be charged to you. Once enrollments have been submitted they come to us and will show as pending. We will then process these and approve them. At that point the status becomes active. There is no need to call and see if you did it right...just wait for the status to go from pending to active! 4 PLYMOUTH COUNTY EXTENSION STAFF JANELLE JOHNSON COUNTY PROGRAM COORDINATOR janelle@iastate.edu ANN SCHOENROCK COUNTY PROGRAM & YOUTH COORDINATOR schoenro@iastate.edu JILL LENERS OFFICE & PROGRAM ASSISTANT jleners@iastate.edu JODI FISHER CLOVER KID COORDINATOR/PROGRAM ASSISTANT jlfisher@iastate.edu BEN PULLEN YOUTH PROGRAM SPECIALIST bpullen@iastate.edu 4-H & YOUTH COMMITTEE Zach Pratt Crystal Jauer Linda Schroeder Jim Jauer Andrea Hawkins Randi Anstine Jill Feuerhelm Angie Schnepf Mary Albrecht Alise Allen Ben Vondrak Ryan Schroeder HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
