Welcome Ms. Sandy Kennedy Ms. Kennedy will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, May 23rd from 6:30-7:30 P.M. in the multi-purpose room for any parents and students that would like to meet her. She is very excited to begin working at Spencer Loomis School and meeting all of you. Please stop by school and introduce yourself to her that evening. May 18th, 2012 Volume 34 Special Interest: Congratulations to Susan Lindner for being selected as the Spencer Loomis Staff Member of the Month. This award is given to one staff member per year so it is really the Spencer Loomis Staff Member of the Year. Thank you Susan for all you have done for the students, parents, staff and me over the years! Registration /District 95 Mission Statement Registration Forms were sent home several weeks ago. Registration packets were due back to school on May 1st. Returning the registration forms helps us to plan for the school year. Please call us if you have any If you know anyone that has a child entering kindergarten this fall please encourage them to register as soon as possible. It is very important that we have accurate enrollment numbers so we can staff accordingly. Thank you. 2 Page 2 Teacher Requests As the school year comes to an end, I want to remind everyone about our policy regarding any requests for specific teachers for next year. It is very important everyone understands that parent requests for specific teachers will NOT be honored under any circumstances. A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into placing students in specific classrooms. Input is given by the current teacher, specials teachers, next year s teachers and me before final decisions are made. It is a complex process and any attempt to honor specific teacher requests jeopardizes that process. I am extremely proud of all our staff at Spencer Loomis School. They all do a great job of teaching and meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Thursday, May24th Building a Just and Peaceful Global Community through Sports The summer Olympics will be held in England this year. Our Field Day will center around this event. We have selected eight countries that will be represented. Our students must learn to live and work in a global community. Therefore, the activities leading up to Field Day will revolve around promoting an understanding and appreciation of other cultures. This will be integrated into the subject areas of art, music and LMC. During their Physical Education classes students will be encouraged to put forth their best efforts on Field Day. To foster an environment of team-spirit, fairplay, cooperation and multicultural appreciation.
