1 Inside this Issue Lewisville Campus News Winfree Academy: Volume 1 October 2017 We re Back! Here at Winfree Lewisville, we re excited to begin a new year of learning, achievement, and fun. August and September have flown by, and we ve even had a completer already! I also have a special announcement: from now on, this newsletter will be a student-run publication! If you are interested in writing or editing, see me to apply. I can t wait to see all the amazing things our learners do this year! -Ms. Nall Coming Up We will have our annual All-Star Talent Show on Oct. 13th between sessions. The Fall 2017 issue of Winfree Insights, our art and literary magazine, will be out in December. Get your submissions in by October 31 to be included! October is Awareness Month! We will be showing our support all month long for the brave individuals fighting this disease. On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink! 2 StuCo Scoop Lewisville Student Council has already had our first meeting of the year, and we can t wait to show you our Osprey spirit! Here s what s coming up Officer Elections will be held on October 12. Look out for campaign events this month! Red Ribbon Week is October 23-31st. Stay tuned for themes and announcements. On My Mind Famous American businessman J.P Morgan said, The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you re not going to stay where you are. Over the past few weeks, we ve celebrated lots of first steps with our Winfree Family. Students are back to school a first day is the next first step toward graduation. We ve welcomed some great, new staff. We ve taken steps to assist our learners make progress. Even though we re only a few weeks in, we re already seeing the accomplishments begin to mound up. It s been a great start to the year. We have three key words we re sharing with learners: Attendance, Respect, Work. Learners who are committed to those three words will see amazing things happen. It will be exciting to see next June how far a journey we ve taken from our first steps this fall. Dr. Stubblefield Principal

3 Counselor s Corner Student Spotlight Kevin Son Ms. Pierce Credit By Exam Testing dates: Oct Registration due by Thursday, Sept. 28 See Ms. Pierce to find out if you qualify. PSAT Testing date: Oct 11 Registration due by Friday, Oct. 5 Kevin has been with Winfree Lewisville since April 2017, and he has become one of our hardest workers. After a few minor setbacks last year, Kevin has really re-dedicated himself to his work and is absolutely killing it in his classes! We have been in school for just a little over a month, and he is already at 222% progress. Kevin says his favorite things about Winfree are the shorter, more manageable school days and the opportunity to work at home, which helps his family stay involved in his learning. We are incredibly proud of this bright young learner, and have no doubt that he will continue to knock it out of the park. Winfree will pay for your registration fees! Sign up today!
