2 2 11 Marshall County Clover Chatter-July August Calendar of Events 3 Projects down to State Fair What a great fair! Of course, I hope we can make next year s even better, and I look forward to working with all of you to help make that happen. I am certainly proud to be a part of the Marshall County 4-H Fair. It was wonderful to see so many people come together and put in long hours to make the fair possible most of them volunteering their time. I can t say it enough THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who helped before, during, and after the fair to make it a success. The next time you see a 4-H volunteer, be sure to thank them for their efforts. It was awesome to see the finished projects that many had spent months working on. The sense of accomplishment these 4-Hers felt was really great to see, and was well-deserved. I also loved seeing the kids interact with each and help each other out. It was especially neat to watch an older member teaching a younger one the proper way to do something, whether for showmanship or otherwise. The sense of community at the Marshall County 4-H Fair is something you should all be very proud of. I was impressed by how many of you in our 4-H community kept the focus where it should be on the kids. I was also pleased to see many of you showing the 4-Hers that there s more to it than just winning and losing. 3 10 Jr. Leaders As it has been an incredibly busy summer for everyone involved in 4-H, that has certainly been true for our Junior Leaders as well. On top of taking care of their animals and other responsibilities 4-Hers have during fair week, many Junior Leaders organized and ran events such as the Pig Scramble and Barnyard Olympics. Not only that, but they of course ran the Junior Leader pop stand and we would like to thank all of you who supported them during the week of the fair. The money raised will be put to use on community service projects and helping those in need in our community and throughout Indiana. While it will be hard to see our seniors go, I m excited to see what new leaders emerge and help guide the program. It will also be great to see the new faces that will join Junior Leaders for the first time. Speaking of, the call-out meeting is coming up soon. If you re looking to make a difference in your community and also want to have fun and build new friendships we d love to have you! In rabbits, the total was $9, Grand Champion Macy Morris of Green Twp. sold her lamb for $13 per pound, totaling $1, The sheep weighed in at 148 pounds. Sheep sold for a total of $10,074.12, for $3.31 a pound. Swine made an impressive show with $55,901.72, at $1.57 per pound. Tanner Hoffman received grand champion for his barrow; however, the animal was not taken to auction. 4-H Opportunities This is the greatest showcase of the Past, Present & Future of Hoosier Agriculture. Dow AgroSciences and the Indiana State Fair Commission are proud to dedicate your Great Indiana State Fair to the families who make it happen: The Year of the Farmer. We will honor and gratefully introduce those who have committed their lives to producing food, fiber & fuel through the innovation of their Farms, our Future and our Communities. Meat Goat Meeting On August 17th at 6:30 PM there will be a Meat Goat meeting in the Extension Office. This meeting is for parents and 4-Her s who are either in meat goats or are wanting to be a part of the meat goat project. Please bring fundraiser ideas with you as we will be discussing these. 5 8 5 Auction 2015 From the Farmers Exchange: The kids worked hard, so did the auctioneers and volunteers who spent a humid day under the arena's roof. This year's auction total did not garner as much as 2014 with $226,822.51, and $186, for Beef rounded out with a total of $ 67,048.82, at $2.32 per pound. Green: Contact Chantel Poisel or Tom Watson for Taking the top of the line in beef was Tanner Hoffman of Union Twp., who's grand champion steer a crossbreed, sold at a record breaking $8.50 per pound and weighed in at 1,311 pounds. Hoffman earned a total of $11,143.50, with the previous bidding record for a steer at $6.25 per pound. Alexie Meister, from German Twp., brought in an impressive $6,580 for her reserve grand champion steer from her support group. In dairy cows, the five grand champions were ear to ear with grins at those who purchased their products. Dairy beef brought an impressive haul with $ 33,857.41, at $1.15 per pound. Dairy products accounted for $4,850, and $1, as a lot. Dairy goats raised $1, in sales. 6 6 7 4-H Information Folder Pick Up WHAT A NICE TROPHY! If we heard it once, we heard it twice. We agree; the trophies we had this year at the fair we beautiful - and not cheap either! If you received a trophy or sold an animal in the auction SEND A THANK YOU note to whoever supported you! Remember, a little thank you can go a long way! Don t forget to pick up your Achievement Folder! The folder contains your manuals, ribbons, judges comment sheets and record sheets from fair. If you did not pick yours up during project pick up, you may pick it up when you get your projects! Missing a project?? We have some lonely projects waiting to be claimed at the Extension Office still. If you did not pick up your projects during project check out, be sure to call us!! All projects left over at the end of August will be taken to township leaders during the achievement banquet night for your township. Some township leaders may already have left over projects. Be sure to pick your projects up! They are wanting a good home! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 4-H MEMBERS ON YOUR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THIS YEAR S 4-H PROGRAM. We would like to thank all who helped to make the H Fair run smoothly this year. It takes many volunteers to do numerous tasks and the help was greatly appreciated. Without all our volunteers we would not be able to have the fair we have. Thank you Fairboard, 4-H Council, Junior Leaders and all the leaders/ volunteers that spent countless hours at the fair.
