1 Henry Fork Happenings Over Forty Years in Mission: Volume 15, Issue 11 Dec 2012 Off the Top of my Head When they (the magi) saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. Matthew 2:10-11 As we come to the end of another year of ministry at the Henry Fork Service Center, I am so aware of the gifts we receive throughout the year and am overjoyed. I m filled with joy that we can minister to children, youth, and their families in the name of Jesus Christ. I m overjoyed that our youth are accepting Christ as Savior and are trying to live as He calls them to walk, talk, and relate in a world that is often filled with hatred. I m overjoyed that our students rejoice in the opportunity to praise God through choir, visual arts, puppets, bells, dance, and all the activities in the classrooms. Joy comes from the sharing of gifts from our staff and our Board of Directors. Our teachers, with the exceptions of Jessica Hunt and Brandy Ferguson, are not professional teachers. They are men and women who love the Lord and seek to share the story of that love every morning from 9:00-12:00 and every afternoon from 2:30-5:00. They share their stories, read Bible stories, help with homework that gets more difficult every year, and play with our students on the blacktop and in the Activity Building. They make God s love visible every day. Our active Board of Directors and volunteers work with us to make the ministry of Henry Fork Service Center happen. They share our story, bring their friends to Henry Fork, introduce our staff to their friends and organizations, organize concerts and other fundraisers, and share with our students in so many ways. Our volunteers keep the campus working in proper order, fix roofs, mow and weed-eat, and work with our students in the classroom. They minister to Christ through the Henry Fork Center. When we go to the Post Office and your churches, we know that we are accepting your treasures and are filled with joy and gratitude. As you collect the items we need for our students and for our facilities, you are sharing your gifts and talents for Henry Fork Center. 2 Jessica & Yvonne PreK-1st Grade During a Lost sheep game, the children had to take turns being the shepherd and guessing which sheep was lost. The children loved the idea that God finds lost sheep and wanted to play the game repeatedly. Michelle & Kristin 2nd & 3rd Grade Once a week, I choose a topic to discuss and the students talk openly about their experiences and feelings. I have been surprised that they understand and have the same feelings and concerns that adults have. Through our Open Discussions, we have learned a lot about each other. Joanna & David 4th & 5th Grade During the week our class was talking about anger, the students wrote their anger issues on a piece of paper. We went out to the fire pit and each student burned their piece of paper. They enjoyed burning their issues and then wrote their hopes for Crystal & Brandy 6th & 8th Grade The Middle School students have experienced some struggles of their own this fall, including a brother in an accident and problems with self-esteem, anger, & school work. We are learning together how to pray, share, and succeed with people who are different from us.

3 Words from the parents The Henry Fork Center has had a positive impact on my family s life. My daughter attending the program enjoys the many different activities they provide. She participates in the choir, does Zumba on Fridays, and has made a lot of friends there. The program is very helpful to me as a single parent. The Center provides my daughter with a reliable and family-friendly place to be while I am working. She has made new friends and they help take the stress off of me when I have to work late. The staff are beyond friendly, working hard to set a positive, religious, and stable environment. They have provided her with the school supplies she needs. The staff teach the children the importance of being respectful to not only the staff but other children who attend as well. No child is treated differently, letting them feel equal and important. The Center provides the children with extra activities such as choir and educational outings. I find the monthly dues very accommodating to each family s needs. I recommend anyone with children to attend the Center. The services are exceptional, and have met and continue to outgrow my expectations. When asking my daughter about her experiences at Henry Fork, she describes it as a fun and exciting place to be. I am very appreciative of their services and it means a lot to me.
