3 Enrollments 45 DEFINITIONS OF TERMS USED The tables in this section use technical terms to describe the information presented. The following is a list of the most commonly used terms and their meanings. ENROLLMENTS FTE is an abbreviation for full-time equivalent student enrollments and is part of the legislatively approved formula for funding instruction. The funding formula applies only to state-supported enrollments. Although state-supported, Law, Dental Medicine, and Executive MBA enrollments are not included in the funding formula, and therefore are not in FTE enrollments. FTE student enrollments are calculated using course enrollments and course credits to obtain student credit hours (SCH). Student credit hours are obtained by multiplying the number of credits for which a course is offered by the number of students enrolled in that course. To calculate FTE students, undergraduate student credits are divided by 15, masters-level credits are divided by 12, and doctoral credits are divided by 9. Full-time equivalent students should be distinguished from the Registrar s classification of full-time students, which is a classification of individual students. Full-time students are students enrolled for a full-time course load. Annual FTE enrollments are an average of fall and spring semester FTE enrollments. For a more detailed explanation of FTE calculation, please refer to Understanding the New FTE Formula at REPORTS Official preliminary (beginning of semester) and final (end of semester) reports are the official campus enrollments reported by Enrollment and Student Services each semester or enrollment period. The primary difference between preliminary and final reports is timing. A preliminary report is a snapshot of enrollment at the beginning of the semester; a final report is a snapshot of enrollment at the end of the semester.
