3 News & Events Launch of Mater s Program Master of Pharmacy with two concentrations in Pharmaceutical Formulation Development Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice This significant Master s Program proposed by Dubai Pharmacy College has been approved for initial Accreditation with effect from October 1, 2013 by the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research,UAE. 3

4 White Coat Ceremony A White Coat Ceremony ' was held on Sunday, Sept 8 th, to welcome new batch of students of Dubai Medical College (DMC) and Dubai Pharmacy College (DPC), the first medical and pharmacy colleges in the UAE. The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition within the medical profession that marks the students transition from the classroom to clinical studies. New students of 28 th batch from DMC and 22 nd batch from DPC will take Hippocratic Oath on the day, in the presence of the Deans, faculty members, fellow students and family to mark this rite of passage. The event program includes keynote address by Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, DMC; welcome addresses by Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed, Dean of DMC and Prof.Saeed Ahmed Khan, Dean of DPC. Over 1600 professionals have graduated till date from DMC and DPC out of which around 500 are Emiratis. 4

A warm word of welcome on behalf of DPC to everyone especially the New Students as we celebrate the White Coat ceremony. Today is an exceptional day since starting today you have officially become a part of DPC. Let s devote a moment to acknowledge, Hajj Saeed Bin Ahmed AL-Lootah, The Founder of DMCG and DPC. This college is a place where Muslim students get together and achieve the best education in the field of Pharmacy. I assure you the Dean, Dr. Saeed Ahmed Khan, will be there to guide you in each and every step you take throughout your four year journey as he has been doing for the past two decades. You are lucky to have a faculty whose guidance, encouragement and teaching skills will lead you to the path of success and their friendly nature is an open invitation to any query you might have. On behalf of all your seniors I promise to you all that a helping hand will always be there anytime you need and we heartily welcome you all with open-minds. Along with academics, there are wonderful opportunities awaiting you for like the student union, a place where you can exhibit your leadership skills and enhance team-work spirit. Let s capture some magical moments, let s create happy memories and let s surround ourselves with laughter and friendship. 6 Faculty and Staff Welcoming New Faculty Member We are pleased to welcome a new faculty member to DPC team. Dr. Mirza R. Baig is appointed as a Professor and Head of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy practice Department. He received his PhD in the field of Clinical Pharmacy from University Science Malaysia, an apex university in Malaysia. His research area includes outcome based research, Drug Utilization Studies, Drug interaction studies,pharmaceutical care, Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomic studies related to Diabetes Mellitus. He is also interested in the Public health research related to the use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Mirza has more than 10 years of International teaching and research experience who worked in different capacities in India and Malaysia. He also served as an Acting Dean for a short period in AIMST University inmalaysia. He published many research papers and articles in International journals. He also has co-authored books related to Clinical Pharmacy field with prominent publishers. He is involved in editorial board in various International Journals including journals in science direct. As the Head of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice department, ProfessorMirza lends his international experience to guide and supervise the future global Clinical Pharmacist and strengthens the resources in Dubai Pharmacy College to continue to maintain its educational impact. 7 Condolence On behalf of the Dean, Faculty and all staff and students of DPC we would like to express deepest condolences to the family of Professor Sobhi Said, the former Dean of Dubai Pharmacy College, who passed away on the 26 th of September, We pray to the Almighty Allah to grant peace to the departed soul and to give strength to all relatives to bear this loss. 7
