2 Call for Papers Profile of the University: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a central university established in 1998 by an Act of Indian Parliament, with all India Jurisdiction, to promote and develop Urdu language, impart vocational and technical education in Urdu medium through conventional and distance modes and focus on women education. The headquarter of the University is at a central location of Gachibowli in Hyderabad and spread over 200 acres. The university has been awarded A Grade by NAAC in 2009 and again in MANUU has completed 20 years in the field of education working with a strong commitment to teaching, learning, research and innovation along with a special focus on women education to fulfill its statutory mandate. It has a unique distinction of offering courses and programmes from elementary to higher education in general and professional, technical and vocational streams in particular in Urdu. The University is catering to the educational needs of the large sections of unreached Urdu population of the society and delivering education through teaching, research, training and outreach activities with well established Schools, Departments, Centres and Satellite Campuses. At present there are 7 Schools; 24 Departments; 11 Centres; 10 Colleges; 5 Polytechnics; 3 Industrial Training Institutes; 3 Model Schools and different Coaching Centres. The university is offering 20 Ph.D, 25 Post Graduate and 18 Under Graduate programs and a few Diploma and Certificate Courses. The University is having approximately 400 regular faculty, 400 non-teaching staff and 6000 regular students from across India. Most of the schools of studies have already produced a considerable number of U.G and P.G Degree holders and M. Phil and Ph.D Scholars. Further, the university is having a Directorate of Distance Education at Headquarters with 9 Regional Centres (RCs), 6 Sub-Regional Centres and about 175 Study Centres across the country and offering several programmes in Urdu at the door steps of the learners. The University has a satisfactory record of its well placed Alumni. Moreover, the University maintains healthy male female ratio and promotes diversity by attracting students from diverse sections of the society from different states of India and also encouraging foreign students. About the Organizers: MANUU with the mandate to promote teaching, learning and research in Social Sciences and other disciplines in Urdu medium has successfully organized the Urdu Science Congress in February, 2017 and in February, 2018 and Urdu Social Science Congress in December, The Second National Urdu Social Science Congress, 2

3 2018 is scheduled to be organized by the Centre for Promotion of Knowledge in Urdu (CPKU) in association with the School of Arts & Social Sciences (SA&SS), Maulana Azad National Urdu University at Hyderabad on 15 th and 16 th November, The School of Arts and Social Sciences was established in the year The School currently consists of eight Departments i.e., Women Education, Public Administration, Social Work, Political Science, Islamic Studies, History, Sociology and Economics and actively engaged in teaching and research. In 2016, the university has established Centre for Promotion of Knowledge in Urdu to develop knowledge of different disciplines in Urdu. The Centre also aims to hold National Urdu Congresses and publish peer reviewed journals in Science and Social Science every year. Second National Urdu Social Science Congress 2018: At the outset we should remember that Social Sciences have been playing a pivotal role in the development of knowledge and skills for the versatile development of human beings and that the trends in Social Sciences have been ever changing to meet the requirements of the changes in the society. Under the impact of powerful domestic and international forces, where globalization and opening of the economy have become reality, the Social Sciences, today, are more concerned with society than ever before. The earlier role of exclusivity is no longer being accorded to the Social Sciences now. In a complex State-Society relational situation, the focus of Social Sciences have been shifting more and more towards explaining diversity, complexity and interactivity in society and networking with other organizations, rather than exclusivity of government. It is ironic that the Social Sciences, the area most vitally and directly concerned with social forces and trends, have been one of the last segments of the curriculum to come under careful and systematic review. It is here that the present Congress seeks to address the issues and emerging trends in Social Sciences, in its two days deliberations. The exercise is also expected to provide some measures of policy importance. The Congress will discuss the knowledge base in Social Sciences in Urdu and discuss the ways and means to adopt the emerging trends in Social Sciences. Urdu language has a rich depository of knowledge in the fields of literature and religion and this has overshadowed its contribution to the fields of Sciences and Social Sciences. Hundred years back, the experiment of Osmania University to teach Sciences and Social Sciences in Urdu medium was a great success. Later, Urdu as a medium of instruction has been replaced with English and other vernacular languages not only in Osmania University but also in most of the other institutions. However, Urdu is still a medium of instruction in a good number of schools, colleges and madarsas across India. There is a need to address the growing paucity of knowledge in Urdu in the field of Social Sciences and blend the teaching and research in Social Sciences in Urdu with the emerging trends in the field. The purpose of this Congress is to bring together the Urdu knowing scholars, teachers, research students and all other stakeholders of Social Sciences on one 3

4 platform. It aims to focus on the emerging trends in Social Sciences and explore the ways and means to adopt these changes in the teaching and research of Social Sciences through Urdu medium. Theme and Sub-Themes of the Congress: Main Theme: Emerging Trends in Social Sciences Sub-Themes: 1. The Changing Contours in Women Studies 2. New Horizons of Public Administration 3. Emerging Trends in Social Work 4. Emerging Trends in Indian Politics 5. Islamic Studies: Emerging Trends and Opportunities 6. Recent Approaches in Indian History 7. Cultural Contestations, Conflicts and Discourse Today: Sociological Explorations 8. Emerging Trends in Economics Guidelines for Paper Submission: - Participants are requested to contribute original and well researched papers on the main theme and sub-themes in Urdu for the Congress. - Abstracts of the paper should not be in more than 300 words. - The abstracts must focus on the uniqueness of the topic and the theoretical, empirical or analytical grounding of the research paper. - It should also include the title, name of author(s), keywords, university/institution of affiliation and detailed address. - Full length paper should not exceed 5000 words typed in Urdu In-page. 5 Travel Support: For the authors of accepted papers, 3 rd A/C train fare will be reimbursed on production of tickets. Only one author for one paper will be considered for reimbursement of ticket fare. Local Hospitality & Accommodation: The delegates will be provided food and accommodation during the Congress in the university campus. There is no Registration Fee for attending the Congress and no allowances will be to the participants.
