21 Health Professions Students must not only meet the requirements for their academic undergraduate major, but also the prerequisite requirements for the professional program they are seeking. While not required, it is highly encouraged students seeking a health profession complete the required prerequisite science and mathematics courses, along with the recommended courses for their specific program at a four-year university. 22 Health Professions In order to be a competitive applicant, students should plan to do the following as they prepare for the health profession: Become involved with student organizations and request to be part of the Listserv related to your academic major and health profession of interest Plan to take time to shadow a licensed professional in your area of interest Take advantage of any research or internship opportunities available Continuously work on your personal statement for professional school Take a minimum of 15 hours of academic coursework each semester
