2 THE UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY Established in 1882, The University of Findlay is an accredited private, coeducational institution located in northwest Ohio. It is within a two-hour drive of Columbus, Ohio; Cleveland, Ohio; and Detroit, Michigan. Findlay provides the best of both worlds. 3 SUMMER CAMP DESCRIPTION In July 2015 The University of Findlay will be offering an English and American Culture International Summer Camp. The camp is tailored to offer students instruction based on their skills and proficiency and will be placed in one of three different English levels. The University of Findlay Summer Camp will strongly blend English and American culture in the form of English classroom instruction, guest lectures, and field trips both academic and recreational in nature. To mention a few examples, students will be visiting local area companies and museums, while also finding themselves in amusement parks for some recreational fun. 4 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Please fill out application and other necessary documentation online before due date of April 10, Link to application, emergency information form, and indemnity form can be found at Findlay.edu/admissions/ international/uf-summer-camp. Only completed applications will be processed. Application decisions will be made by April and the applicant will be notified via . Do not book any travel arrangements until you have been notified of your camp acceptance. Please forward the non-refundable application fee of $500 made out to The University of Findlay in money order form to the attention of Jenn Butler-UF Summer Camps-International Admissions and Services, 1000 N. Main St. Findlay, Ohio Payment of application fee must reach UF no later than May 1, 2015 and if paid in full the student will receive a $100 discount. FIELD TRIP/ EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES All summer camps will incorporate daily recreational activities and may include, but are not limited to: Field trips to a Toledo Mud Hens game ( and museums such as the Toledo Museum of Art ( or the Armstrong Air and Space Museum ( Other trips may include a trip to King s Island Amusement Park ( and/or Cedar Point ( Columbus Zoo ( Frankenmuth, MI ( Amish Country ( and outlet mall shopping. There will also be activities in the evenings, which may include bowling, movie night and outdoor games. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. No refunds will be given after June 1,

5 THE RULES In order to provide a quality summer camp experience for all, each participant is expected to adhere to the following rules of the program and The University of Findlay: Participants are expected to treat all other participants with respect and demonstrate an appreciation of diversity. Violent, abusive or harassing behaviors are grounds for immediate dismissal at the personal cost of the individual. 1. Participants will be prepared and on time for all scheduled activities. 2. Absolutely no alcohol, smoking, or illegal drugs are permitted. Violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal and possible criminal charges. 3. Participants are not allowed to have automobiles on campus. 4. Participants are not permitted to have visitors during their stay. 5. Members of the opposite sex are not permitted to occupy the same dorm room at any time of day. 6. Participants are not to leave their rooms after lights-out, except in the event of an emergency. 7. Participants are responsible for the keys assigned to them. Participants will keep their rooms locked at all times and will carry their keys with them. 8. Participants are responsible for their own personal belongings, clothes, and money. 9. Participants are responsible for providing proof of study abroad insurance coverage. Any infringement of these rules may result in participant s immediate dismissal from the program at the personal cost of the individual. ARRIVAL PROCEDURES We provide free airport pick-up service for our international students from the airport to the University campus area during the summer camp. Reserve your tickets for arrival and departure at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan. your complete itinerary at least three weeks before your arrival in Detroit to butler@findlay.edu. PROGRAM FEES Residential fees cover tuition, curriculum materials and activities, on-campus housing, and most meals The nonrefundable application fee of $500 is applied to the total camp fee and is due May 1, 2015 The final balance payment is due on or before June 1, 2015 in money order form to The University of Findlay. There will be no refunds after June 1, This can be sent to the attention of Jenn Butler UF Summer Camps-International Admissions and Services N. Main St. Findlay, Ohio If you pay the full amount of camp by May 1, 2015 your amount due will be $100 less than the total required for attendance. Students and chaperones will be provided with a scheduled arrival and departure date after you have been accepted to camp. Please wait to book your flight until you have received this acceptance letter and information. Students and chaperones will be charged a minimum of $100 a day for meals and lodging for early arrival and late departure. 4

6 LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS Summer Camp residential participants will live in either a UF residence hall or a UF Welcome House. Room assignments are made randomly, unless a specific roommate is requested. The rooms are designed to house two participants. Each residence hall room features bunk beds, and student desks. Each floor has a lounge with cable television. Laundry facilities are available in each building. Telephone service is not provided in individual rooms, unless a medical condition warrants immediate phone access at all times. Participants will also be able to utilize some recreational features of the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Center. The center houses the Malcolm Athletic Center, the Student Recreation Center, the UF Athletic Hall of Fame, a varsity weight room, game room, cardio center and a racquetball court. The weather in Ohio during the summer months is usually warm and humid. All residence hall rooms and academic buildings are air-conditioned. As you pack, remember to include casual comfortable clothes, at least two pairs of comfortable shoes, a swimsuit, personal toiletries, an alarm clock and umbrella. Be advised that some activities and field trips may result in wet and soiled clothes. Residence hall rooms should be locked at all times. Participants are responsible for their own belongings, money, and room key. In addition, participants are responsible for any damages that occur to the residence hall room and other university property. A fee of $25 will be assessed for lost room keys. Since participants are very busy, it is often difficult to contact them while they are on campus. Emergency telephone messages can be left at the International Admissions and Services Office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Messages will be delivered to participants at meals unless immediate contact is necessary. After-hours, emergency contact information will be provided to students at check-in. 7 PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Intensive English and American Culture This course is designed to expand the students knowledge of speaking and writing American English. The instruction will be tailored based on the students skills and proficiency and will be placed in one of three different levels. This course will also cover aspects of the culture of the United States so as to give context to the language of the region. All programs consist of the following: 1. Five hours of hands on, interactive instruction four times a week 2. Extra-curricular activities may include bowling, equestrian farm and American family farm visits, bonfires, outdoor games, amusement parks, museums, baseball game, and shopping. 3.
