6 ECONOMIC development Logan County Ohio, the Center for Smart Mobility Development & Testing Logan County, Ohio is located 50 miles northwest of Columbus and is a rural community that sustains a strong agricultural heritage and work ethic. It is home to over 16 foreign owned companies who primarily support Honda and the global automotive industry by supplying tier 1 and tier 2 parts, warehouse and logistic operations. Logan County is also home to the Transportation Research Center (TRC), a one of a kind mobility research and testing facility encompassing 4,500 acres and a 7.5-mile-long oval test track. TRC is owned by Honda and managed by the Ohio State University College of Engineering. TRC is a one-stop source for vehicle testing, compliance, and research and development. They perform crash testing, emissions testing, dynamic and durability testing, validation; offer specialized test equipment and calibration services, crash dummy rentals, performance and vehicle test driving; host special events and, most importantly, provide engineering solutions. Their experience working with various OEMs, governments, and a variety of manufacturers from around the world, TRC project managers, engineers and support staff have extensive knowledge and expertise, testing nearly every type of vehicle, equipment and component. Since the 1970s, TRC has been the home of the only federal vehicle research and test laboratory for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Their team members assist with crash test dummy standardization, crash avoidance testing and research, cyber security, laboratory operations, defects analysis assessment and testing, and crashworthiness testing and research. All of this and more making Logan County, Ohio the center for smart mobility development and testing. 9 PIATT CASTLES Mac-A-Cheek and Mac-O-Chee castles were built in the late 19th century. They both feature the Piatt Family s history, including where they came from, how they made a living, and how each generation adapted their house during changing times.
