4 Instructions for Static Judging on Monday, July 23 There is NO set time for your club to be judged on the 24th. Static judging will be from 8:30 a.m.-noon and again from 1-2:30 p.m. Conference judging closes at 2:30 p.m.! The steps to follow when you come to the Exhibit Hall to have our exhibits evaluated are as follow: Check in of Exhibits: 1. Exhibitors will receive his/her entry tags at the check in table. It will be your responsibility to go through the stack of entry tags and pull out the ones that match what you will be exhibiting and turn back in the one s that you don t need. 2. Exhibitors will then sit down at a laptop computer and check-in exactly what exhibits he/she has brought to the fair in the FairEntry program. Each exhibit must have a completed goal statement. Also, make sure that each piece of your exhibit is marked with your name and club name on it. 3. Exhibitors will receive their judges sheet once all their exhibits have been entered. 4. Exhibitors will then move to the supply table and attach their entry tags to their exhibits. Tape, string, scissors, safety pins, etc.. will be provided for you. 5. Once entry tags are attached, the exhibitor will proceed to the bleachers to wait for an available judge to begin the conference judging process. Judging: Judging will be by subject matter (such as Food & Nutrition, Photography, Gardening, etc.) and will be done with conference style judging...talking face-to-face with the judge. Judges in each area will be available throughout the day and members may go to them in whatever order they choose. Members are reminded to take all their exhibits in a subject area (i.e. Clothing) at the same time to the appropriate judge. Members continue the process until all of their exhibits have been evaluated. IMPORTANT: Members need to be prepared to speak to the judge about their exhibit. They want to hear about the exhibit from YOU! (Hint: chewing gum is not a good idea when being judged). Continuation From 2018: The judges will be handing out ribbons, for each exhibit they judge, at their own tables. Be sure to take your ribbons with you when you leave their table. Check-out Table: After judging has been completed, exhibitors will continue to the check-out table. Volunteers will tabulate your judge s sheet to make sure that you have received the correct number of ribbons for your exhibits. Once everything looks correct, your judges sheet will remain at the check-out table and you will proceed to your club booth to attach your ribbons to each exhibit for display. Exhibits being held for State Fair consideration will be placed in a special room. 4-H members must have completed 5th grade to be considered for the State Fair. 4th grade members with outstanding exhibits will receive a special gold ribbon for recognition and be asked to participate in the Static Parade of Champions on Saturday evening, July 28, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Group Projects: Group Projects will be judged as noted on page 11 of the fair book. Group projects will be judged beginning at 8:00 a.m. and again at 2:00 p.m. A representative from the Group Project will be responsible to pick up the entry tag and judges sheet at check-in. 5 The Flock is Coming!!! An odd group of birds will be flying in the area this summer right when the Des Moines County Fair starts. A few flamingos will be taking over the camp grounds helping to fundraise for the Des Moines County Teen Council. In other words, the flocking will start this summer! Start saving to buy: insurance if you don t want the birds to land on your camping spot, for a ransom to get the birds off your camping spot, or a curse to curse the birds upon a camper. Insurance is $20, a ransom is $10, and a curse is $5. Also, you can save up for the package deals: a curse for the 3 campers is $25 or a 2 camper deal is $15. Personal property will not be damaged when the flock lands. However, if one of our flamingos goes missing or is mammed, then a $20 vet bill will be imposed to the camper or campsite. When buying insurance, a ransom, or a curse, please place the name(s) of the camper(s) on a piece of paper and submit it with your payment, made out the Des Moines County Teen Council, and mail to the Des Moines County Extension Office, 1700 W Mt. Pleasant Street, West Burlington, Iowa 52655, prior to July 21st, or drop off at the 4-H Office, located on the fairgrounds, during the fair. If you have any questions, please contact Mary or a Teen Council member.
