Kirkwood Avenue Bloomington, Indiana Website: SarahHatteberg.com EDUCATION In Progress Ph.D., Sociology Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana Ph.D. Minor: Social Science Research Methods Dissertation: The Student-Athlete Experience: An Analysis of Stress and Social Support in NCAA Collegiate Athletics Committee: Peggy Thoits (Chair), Jennifer Lee, Eliza Pavalko, and Brian Powell My dissertation examines the types of stress collegiate student-athletes face, the processes by which they cope with and seek support for these stresses, and the efficacy of support provided by university staff and other individuals within the athletic network. Specifically, I examine how student-athletes balance their roles as athletes and students, both of which are highly demanding roles, and which aspects of each of those roles are most stressful. Then, I analyze which types of support and coping strategies are most effective at helping student-athletes overcome these challenges.
