Of them nine are s, four Associate s, five Assistant s, and one Lecturer. The department offers M.S.course, is a one-year degree programme and has been divided into three major branches; a. Plant Diversity and Environment, b. Biotechnology and c. Agro-biotechnology. Each group consisting of four relevant courses. The department offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses which are mainly based on research; theoritical papers are also includded for promoting current research techniques. The department has been updated with the introduction of research facilities such as Herbarium, Tissue Culture Laboratory, Garden-based experimental plots, Orchidarium, Conservatory Shade-House, Breeding Center, Memory Garden, Medicinal plant blocks, Natural Arboretum, Installing Analytical Instruments. The department has been able to almost reduce the academic session problems. There are some bridge programmes between the department and the foreign agencies for carrying advanced research programmes. A good number of research projects supported by national and international organizations have been successfully completed under the guidance of teachers of this department. Around 550 research papers have been published in national and international journals so far by the teachers of this department. In addition, some research and text books written by some of the teachers have been published by national and international publishers. Many teachers and students have presented their research findings in national and international seminars, conferences and symposia. Two websites Medicinal Plants database of Bangladesh and Bangladesh ethnobotany Online Database- have been published from the Ethnobotany Laboratory of the department by Dr. Shaikh Bokhtear Uddin. A Dictionary of Plant Names of Bangladesh, containing Scientific, Common, Vernacular and English

An ideal Botanical Garden has been established to the southern part of the University Campus over an area of about 60 acres of undulated land for the conservation of both indigenous and exotic plant species of academic and aesthetic interests. More than 12,000 plants of about 450 species under 160 families of both indigenous and exotic species of timber, fruits, medicinal, spices, beverages, latex, orchids, etc., have been collected and conserved in different blocks. The garden is divided into 15 blocks which are earmarked with their characteristic plants. Two breeding nurseries have been developed where hybridization experiments are conducted for crop improvement programmes. About 70 indigenous orchid species and good number of rare, and aesthetic shade-plants have been conserved in the Orchidarium and Conservatory Shade-House respectively. The Botanical Garden and road side plantation of the campus is run under the supervision of a -in-charge who has been assisted by a Field Supervisor and 13 field staffs. Herbarium
