2 2015 HIGHLIGHTS A total of 3,966 international students, representing 102 countries and territories, makes up the international student population at the for Fall 2015, an increase of 10.9% from Fall 2014 (3,577 students from 105 countries). The international student population for Fall 2015 comprises 13.6% of the total number of enrolled students (29,048). The 3,403 international graduate and professional students represent 30.6% of all students at this academic level. The top ten countries of origin for international students for Fall 2015 were India (1,659), China (1,086), South Korea (140), Iran (131), Taiwan (110), Italy (68), Saudi Arabia (61), Brazil (60), Thailand (54), and Canada (43). The top three academic programs* for international students for Fall 2015 were Engineering, Computer/Information Sciences, and Business Administration. Fall 2015 saw the continuation and expansion of the Trade Winds, a 44 person international friendship program that enhances the student experience at UIC by partnering international students with domestic students for interaction through social, cultural, service, and reflective activities. Fall 2015 saw the continuation and expansion of Conversation Partners in conjunction with the Study Abroad Office, a 67 person co-curricular program that enhances the student experience at UIC by partnering international students with past and present U.S. study abroad participants for language practice. Fall 2015 saw the launch of an expanded New International Student Orientation program that served 1,051 students and featured the introduction of sessions on academic success in the U.S. classroom. A total of 786 international scholars, representing 67 countries and territories, makes up the international scholar population at the for Fall 2015, an increase of 0.5% from Fall 2014 (782 scholars from 70 countries). The top ten countries of origin for international scholars for Fall 2015 were China (219), India (134), Brazil (60), South Korea (44), Canada (28), Turkey (19), Italy (17), United Kingdom (16), Germany (16), France (15). The top three Departments/Programs for international scholars were the Department of Medicine, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and the Department of Pharmacology.
