Participants (clients and collaborators) in the Center include representatives from industry, other academic institutions, regulatory authorities, equipment vendors and private consultants. Center for Pharmacy Practice Director: Marsha McFalls, Pharm.D. The goal of the Center for Pharmacy Practice is to provide an environment for student pharmacists to integrate, reinforce, and enhance student learning. The Center demonstrates how didactic information is related to the practice of pharmacy practice, state-of-the-art technology, prescription, nonprescription, and herbal medications. The Center aims to provide a location for student pharmacists to work together to enhance their learning. By showing the relationship between class lectures and pharmacy practice, students are able to gain a better understanding of the information presented to them. The Center for Pharmacy Practice consists of a simulated community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and sterile products area. The community pharmacy is equipped with PharmaServ software and Pharmacy 2000 dispensing systems. The hospital pharmacy is equipped with QS1 software and Pyxis dispensing systems. SimMan, a portable and advanced patient simulator, is used by students to practice communication and patient assessment skills. The Center for Pharmacy Services Director: Terri Kroh, R.Ph. The Center for Pharmacy Services is a community pharmacy located in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. This is one of our five Academic Research Centers in School that is mission-driven and offers state-of-the-art, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services. It is a first-in-the-nation, faculty-designed, university-operated community pharmacy. The Center offers a unique educational training opportunity for Duquesne University student pharmacists. The goal of the Center is to improve access to medications and patient adherence, while enhancing medication safety and reducing overall health care expenditures. We seek to improve access to affordable medications by coordinating resources and delivery options, and to improve patient adherence through regular patient contact and prescriber collaboration. Patient counseling is the primary focus. We are committed to working with community leaders and organizations, especially within the Hill District, to bring medication therapy management and pharmaceutical care to local residents. 29 Experiential Education Preceptor Development Program As part of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Schools of Pharmacy, the Mylan School of Pharmacy offers the on-line APhA/NACDS Community Pharmacist Preceptor Education Program as foundational preceptor training and development. The APhA Immunization Certificate Program was offered at the Duquesne University campus for licensed pharmacists and preceptors by Suzanne Higginbotham, Pharm.D. on August 10-11, 2011; September 7, 2011; October 6, 2011; December 10, 2011; March 7, 2012; April 19, 2012; April 26, 2012; and June 21, Pharmacists successfully completing this course are eligible for certification as immunization providers in designated states. A diabetes certification program was provided by Dr. Autumn Stewart on May 8, The Duquesne University School of Pharmacy Alumni Association offered an additional 7.5 continuing education credits at its annual alumni conference held at Nemacolin Woodlands from March 23-25, On May 14, 2012, the Office of Experiential Education hosted a portfolio evaluation workshop. This workshop, led by Janet Astle, B.S. Pharm, Ed.D., Tracy King, Pharm.D., and Thomas Falcione, B.S. Pharm, provided select preceptors the opportunity to assess experiential student work products and reflections through a defined rubric and assessment instrument. Preceptors were also invited to participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of the Integrated Pharmacy Application (IPA) examinations, as coordinated by Bruce Livengood, Pharm.D., and administered to students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program. The IPA exams serve in preparation for and gateway to the advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs). Other opportunities for preceptor participation included assistance in the assessment of student practicum performance as part of the Pharmacy Practice courses. Core community pharmacist preceptors are further invited to participate in small group weekly student seminars facilitated by Pharmacy Practice faculty and held on the Duquesne campus for the purpose of discussing patient cases, interventions, and patient care projects. Preceptors are also routinely invited to share their input relative to experiential education and curricular reform through focus groups and surveys. All active preceptors were provided an annual report of aggregate student evaluation data that was distributed in November of 2011 for the prior academic year. Preceptor performance on twelve different dimensions was reported as an aggregate mean for each element and further compared to the mean for all preceptors in the same practice experience classification. De-identified student comments were provided, also. ANNUAL REPORT

30 Experiential Education Finally, a Preceptor Appreciation Dinner was hosted by the Office of Experiential Education on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the Duquesne University Power Center Ballroom.
