2 We are delighted that you are able to join us for the 2013 Welcome Programme for new international students. The Welcome Programme is an excellent combination of practical and social events. This timetable shows you what is happening and when. We recommend that you attend as many of the sessions as possible so that you get the maximum benefit out of your first few days in Nottingham. If you have any questions during the week, please stop by our Information Desk in the Portland Building or ask one of the Welcome Programme Student Assistants (wearing yellow t-shirts) for help. Timetable The events printed in black are more formal and we recommend you try to attend as many as possible. Those printed in blue are optional and you can choose which to take part in. All social events held on campus are non-alcoholic and free of charge. Events printed in green have been arranged specifically for the parents of new international students. Tuesday 17 September 10am onwards Check-in for the Welcome Programme University Card collection for students in Cripps, Hugh Stewart and Derby Halls, C27 (You must have uploaded your photograph before 6 September) Bank account opening for students in Cripps, Hugh Stewart and Derby Halls Natwest West Concourse Lounge Santander C20 1-5pm Health Centre registration for students in Cripps, Hugh Stewart and Derby Halls Trent Building, Great Hall 3-5:30pm University Park Campus tour (including sports facilities) with Student Assistants Tours are approximately 1hr and depart every 30 minutes from the front entrance of the Portland Building on East Drive. Last tour departs at 4:30pm. From 6pm Evening meal (see information in your hall of residence for specific time) 8pm Movie night Brighton Rock (Crime/Thriller 111 minutes) Clive Granger Building, A48, Atrium Student Assistant and Welcome Programme participants on the Downs, University Park.

6 Saturday 21 September 7-8am 8am-12pm 9:30am-12pm 1-4:30pm Sunday 22 September Move to permanent accommodation transport will be available for students moving to Sutton Bonington, Jubilee, St Peter s Court, Nottingham 1, Riverside Point, Raleigh Park and Broadgate Park*. Please see notice board in halls for further details. If you are moving to University Park halls or private accommodation you will need to make your own arrangements. Local Taxi Companies D&G Taxis Cable Cars Please note that rooms used during the Welcome Programme must be vacated by 9am. Please ensure that you hand your key in before you leave. *Students moving to Broadgate Park are able to collect keys from Broadgate Reception on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 September between 2-4pm Arrange a photograph for your University Card (if you have not previously uploaded a photograph) Monday 23 Wednesday 25 September Other useful information Police registration please check the student visa/entry clearance in your passport to see if you are required to register with the police. Information desk There will be an information desk in the Portland Building throughout the Welcome Programme (Tuesday Friday between 9am-5pm). Members of staff from the International Office will be based in the Student Services Centre in the Portland Building throughout the Welcome Programme. Tickets Tickets for the Barn Dance (Wednesday), sports activities and Karaoke (Thursday) and International Evening (Friday) are available from the Student Assistants at the Information Desk in the Portland Building. Tickets are available to students registered on the Welcome Programme and are free of charge. Security Office (behind the Hallward Library), C27 Internet access Internet access for the duration of the Welcome Programme will be provided in the Trent Building (LG27 and LG25). Postgraduate IT tutors will be available in the following halls between 5:30-8:30pm during the Welcome Programme: Tuesday Cripps, Hugh Stewart, Derby and Lincoln Wednesday Cripps, Hugh Stewart, Derby, Lincoln and Lenton & Wortley Thursday All Welcome Programme halls Friday All Welcome Programme halls University registration All students must register with the University at the beginning of each new academic session. New students must complete two stages to finalise their registration - online registration through the portal portal.nottingham.ac.uk and in-person registration. Students attending the Welcome Programme should complete in-person registration on Friday 20 September. Please note that you will need your passport and visa when you register in person. Further information can be found online at currentstudents/registration Students who need to show their original academic documents/certificates to a member of staff in the Admissions Office should bring these along to the registration event. Please note that you do not need to attend University registration during Week One if you complete your university registration as part of the Welcome Programme. University cards It will be possible to collect your card during the Welcome Programme if you have uploaded your photograph before 6 September If you have not uploaded your photograph it will be possible to have a photograph taken at the Security Office behind the Hallward Library on the University Park Campus on Sunday 22 September between 10am and 4pm. Banking information There will be two banks taking part in the Welcome Programme Natwest and Santander. Staff from the banks will be available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10am and 4pm. In order to open a bank account in the UK you will need a special letter from the University. To obtain this letter, please complete the request form in the Welcome Pack and take the form with your passport to the room indicated: Natwest, West Concourse Lounge Santander, C20 If you wish to open an account with a bank not listed please hand in your request form at the West Concourse Lounge. If you are opening an account with one of the banks on campus, the official University letter will be sent directly to the bank on your behalf. If you are opening an account with one of the banks offcampus including Lloyds TSB and HSBC you should collect the official University letter from the Student Services Centre and take it to the bank. Week One Monday 23 September to Sunday 29 September The end of the Welcome Programme signals the start of Week One also known as Freshers Week. During Week One, the Students Union puts on an exciting programme of both day and night-time events designed to give all students a fun and sociable introduction to university life. Taking part in Week One activities is a great way to meet new people and to get to know the University.
