1 UDC SBPA Master of Public Administration Program Fact Sheet Degree Title: Master of Public Administration Relationship between Program and University: The Master of Public Administration program is located in the School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA). SBPA is one of the five schools that make up the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). UDC is an urban land grant institution serving the citizens of the District and region. The public sector is a major employer in this region. The SBPA and the MPA program focus on supporting the University s mission to build a diverse generation of competitive, civically engaged scholars and leaders. Mission Statement: The mission of the University of the District of Columbia s (UDC) Master of Public Administration (MPA) program is to provide a rigorous curriculum that is diverse and promotes a commitment to public service with a focus on integrity, critical thinking and an action-oriented collaborative approach demonstrated through research and experiential learning opportunities. The program educates graduate students to provide the Washington metropolitan area federal and local government agencies at the city, county, and state levels, nonprofit organizations, and beyond, with competent, knowledgeable and ethical leaders able to communicate with diverse employees and manage programs. 3 Admission Criteria: General Requirements for Admission: MPA program A baccalaureate degree conferred by an accredited institution A minimum of 2.5 grade point average on a scale of 4.0 Two letters of recommendation 500 word typed personal statement describing objectives and career aspirations Scores from a recent (5 years or less) Graduate Record Exam (GRE) On a case by case basis provisional admissions may be granted to applicants who do not meet the standard admissions requirements. International students, particularly from non-english speaking countries, must demonstrate sufficient English skills by taking and submitting scores from the IELTS or TOEFL tests as part of their application. The minimum TOEFL score for admission into the program is 79 for the internet-based test. Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Leadership A baccalaureate degree conferred by an accredited institution A minimum of 2.5 grade point average on a scale of 4.0 Two letters of recommendation A statement of academic and professional goals, research interests, and motivation *Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) are not required for acceptance to the Certificate program. Up to 9 credits may be applied to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) unless all requirements are met before the fourth course is begun. If the student has met these requirements, then all 18 credits can be applied to the MPA. If a student decides to enroll in the MPA program, the GRE is required.
