2 Objectives 1. Explain the development and role of the faculty-initiated IPE Working Group. 2. Provide an overview of the activities developed by the IPE Working Group and incorporated into required curricula for multiple health professions programs. 3. Discuss the challenges and successes of the IPE Working Group.

7 IPE Working Group Mission Statement Provide IPE and collaboration opportunities for students allowing them to actively participate and engage as healthcare team members by demonstrating mutual respect, understanding, and values to meet patient care needs Plan and deliver IPE activities in required curricula for multiple programs Routinely assess IPE activities Sustain IPE activities for the Worcester/Manchester campuses Promote IPE-related teaching, scholarship and service initiatives for both students and faculty

8 Adopted Definitions IPE definition When students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes (WHO, 2010) Interprofessional Collaborative Practice definition When multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, carers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care (WHO, 2010)

15 2016 Roles Inventory Feedback 80% agreed the event allowed them to learn with students from other professions 92% reported learning something new about another profession This IPE event has certainly broadened my view of the responsibilities of other healthcare professionals. And in doing so, I have gained much respect for the training these professionals must go through to be considered capable of performing the responsibilities that fall under their scope of practice.

23 82% of students agreed or strongly agreed with: I understand why this book is required reading for many health professions students. The book was an excellent choice for everyone to read before starting PA school. It really opened my eyes to different cultures. Helped me understand different obstacles I will have to face in my career. Definitely recommend this for future classes Book Club Feedback

27 2017 IPE Day Student Feedback Through discussions about various biases in my group with members of professions such as optometry, physical therapy and pharmacy, we worked together to enhance our knowledge and understanding about addicted individuals as well as what we can do to minimize bias and stigma. We must be openminded and welcome those who need our help. 85% agreed or strongly agreed with, As a result of this activity, I am more aware of how the opioid crisis has affected the local area.
