2 WVNEC Noon Webinar Series Series Description: In anticipation of a clinical ethics consultant certification process, WVNEC will continue to focus this webinar series on helping to prepare its interested members for certification. The American Society of Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), the largest bioethics society in the US, has developed a quality attestation process through which ASBH will attest to and confirm the quality of clinical ethics consultants based upon consultant experience, education, and demonstration of clinical ethics consultation skills. This webinar series will prepare ethics consultants to apply the process of ethical decision-making and West Virginia health care law, and utilize ethics consultant core competencies to identify, analyze, and resolve ethical conflicts in increasingly frequent cases confronting ethics committees. Series Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of each conference, participants should be able to: apply the process of ethical decision-making to ethics consultation; incorporate knowledge of WV healthcare law into ethics consultation; and demonstrate mastery in the core competencies required for ethics consultation. Target Audience: These conferences are appropriate for physicians, nurses, social workers, administrators, clergy, and ethics committee members who serve on institutional ethics committees and wish to expand their knowledge and skills in health care ethics consultation. 3 Conference Series Faculty Carl Grey, MD - Assistant Professor, West Virginia University School of Medicine, Section of Supportive Care. Dr. Grey is a geriatrician and supportive care physician who treats these patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. He is the Co-Director of the second year medical student required Health Care Ethics Course. He is a member of the WVU Hospital Ethics Committee and has attended both the Intensive Bioethics Course at Georgetown and the Summer Seminar in Health Care Ethics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Alvin H. Moss, MD, FACP, FAAHPM - Professor of Medicine, West Virginia University School of Medicine; Chair, WVUH Ethics Committee; Executive Director, West Virginia Network of Ethics Committees. Dr. Moss is the Medical Director of the WVU Hospital Supportive Care team. Dr. Moss has performed ethics consults for more than 30 years and taught about ethics consultation at the state and national level for more than 20 years. His research includes innovations to improve advance care planning and end-oflife care. He directs the West Virginia Center for End-of-Life Care. Sandra A. Price, JD - Risk Manager, Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University. Sandy regularly presents educational programs on risk management, documentation and liability, informed consent, communication, confidentiality, and related legal issues to the students, residents and faculty in the clinical departments of the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center. Additionally, she serves as an ex-officio member of the Advisory Committee for the WVNEC and teaches Health Care Torts at the West Virginia University College of Law. Valerie Satkoske, MSW, PhD, Director of Ethics for Wheeling Hospital and an ethics consultant for The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and the West Virginia Rural Emergency Trauma Institute. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education at WVU School of Medicine and Associate Director of the WVU Center for Health Ethics and Law. She sits on the ethics committees of multiple hospitals, including Wheeling Hospital and WVU Hospitals. Additionally, she is core faculty in the University of Pittsburgh Center for Bioethics and Health Law and is an affiliate faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh Consortium Ethics Program.

4 Course Credits: How to Participate This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the WVU School of Medicine and the WV Network of Ethics Committees. The WVU School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The WVU Office of CME designates this live activity for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. One hour credit will be awarded for each session attended. This continuing education activity has been provided by the West Virginia University School of Nursing for 1.2 contact hours per session. The West Virginia University School of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing education by the State of West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses, Legislative Rule 19CSR11-4 under provider number WV RN. This course is sponsored by the Center for Health Ethics and Law, Provider Number , which is a West Virginia Certified Provider of continuing education credits for social workers. This program has been awarded up to 1 hour of continuing education credit per session. Please consult your state licensing board for limits on CE hours for other than face-to-face programs. This program has been approved for 1.2 MCLE online credits per session or a maximum of 3.6 hours of credit for the series under the West Virginia Rules for Mandatory Continuing Legal Education. This program has been approved for 0.1 non-credit professional development hours per session by the WVU Academic Innovation Continuing and Professional Education.
