Project: Role of Religion in Reducing Health Disparities in Washington D.C., Summer 2013 Conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with leaders of religious organizations as part of a grant provided by the Georgetown University Initiative to Reduce Health Disparities Pilot. Assisted principal investigators in refining interview protocol. Used multiple sampling strategies to recruit research participants. Analyzed data using qualitative analytical software to prepare manuscripts for publication. Helped principal investigator in development of study s interview protocol. Recruited, administered, and transcribed in-depth interviews with black middle-class married couples in Prince Georges County, MD. Provided preliminary analysis of research findings. Research Associate II The Urban Institute, Washington D.C. Assessing the New Federalism, January August 2006 Worked as part of a research team contracted by the federal government contract to assess the impact of welfare reform on low income families with children. Used Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) to analyze data from the National Survey of America s Family (NSAF). Part of a team tasked with developing and testing the curriculum for an online version of NSAF designed to train representatives of health-based organizations in California to use data for their particular needs. Edited technical and methodological reports for the third and final wave of the NSAF. Wrote conference research report that synthesized major study findings and lessons learned from research using the NSAF. Research Coding Project Intern United States Sentencing Commission, Washington D.C., June-December 2005 Member of a research team tasked with collecting federal sentencing data to be used for federal sentencing policy decisions and reports to Congress. Primary duties included analyzing sentencing documents to assess a variety of case and offender characteristics. Required accurate and efficient assessment of cases, coordinating with fellow research members, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills. Graduate Research Intern Community Education Group, Washington D.C. June 2004-May 2005 Analyzed quantitative data of African American s knowledge of HIV vaccine trials in Washington D.C. Produced written report of research findings later distributed at the 2005 American Public Health Association and the United States Conference on AIDS. Conducted HIV-related literature reviews and assisted in writing and editing research grants awarded by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Washington D.C Department of Health.
