7 Syllabus for Ph.D.Course Work in Physical Education PAPER : RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Time : 3 hrs. Max.Marks : 100 UNIT-I : Meaning and Definition of research in physical education, Nature and characteristics of research, Need and scope of research in physical Education, Research Training, and Qualification of research work. UNIT-II : Concept of research in physical education, types of research, fundamental research, applied research and action research, criteria for selecting research problem and research proposal. UNIT-III : Locating reference materials, critical and allied literature, major source of literature, library techniques, historical research, primary and secondary source of the data, philosophical studies, survey studies and case studies and experimental. UNIT-IV : Tools of research, observation, interview, questionnaire,scales, photography, descriptive method, sampling method, selecting a sample, concept of randomness, types of sample and size of the sample. UNIT-V : Hypothesis, thesis format, thesis report, style of writing, heading, design of the study, tables, graph, footnotes, bibliography and follow up with publication, research journals and articles. UNIT-VI : Statistical methods, statistical measures, measures of central tendency, measures of variability, normal distribution, correlations, frequency distribution, graphical methods, application of computer packages and application of SPSS. 1.
