3 Program Objective and Statement of Need In partnership with hospitals, we are committed to working together as a region to meet the needs of pediatric patients and providers in northern Michigan. The Northern Michigan Pediatric Coalition will provide an opportunity to network with other care providers in the region, participate in educational offerings, and collaboratively discuss current practice challenges with the provision of pediatric care in northern Michigan. Participants will be able to describe evidence-based medical management of pediatric patients in the rural community setting. 4 Faculty Joseph Brennan Director, Operations and ecare, Spectrum Health Joe Brennan is the Director of Operations for ecare at Spectrum Health, a non-profit health system based in West Michigan that includes a hospital group, medical group, and health plan. He has been instrumental in the creation and development of the most robust telehealth program in the State of Michigan. Joe s career experience in technology and start-up entrepreneurship is beneficial in establishment of ecare services at Spectrum Health. Joe earned a Bachelor s Degree in Business Leadership from DePaul University. Jacques-Brett Burgess, MD, MPH Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Munson Medical Center Jacques Burgess, MD, MPH currently serves as the Chief of Hospitalist Medicine at Munson Medical Center. Dr. Burgess earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Courtney Carroll, PharmD Pharmacy Resident Courtney earned her Bachelors of Science Degree from Michigan State University and recently graduated from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy. Currently, she is a PGY-1 pharmacy resident at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI and plans to pursue a PGY-2 specialized residency in pediatrics. Last year, she completed her fourth-year advanced pharmacy practice experiences at Munson Medical Center. As a component of her clinical experience at Munson, she conducted a yearlong doctoral research project focused on standardizing pediatric oral liquid medications. This research was driven by her passion to improve pediatric safety and reduce preventable harm due to medication errors. Margaret Hall, FNP-BC Nurse Practitioner, Regional Bleeding Disorder Center Margaret Hall, MSN, RN, FNP-BC practices at the Northern Regional Bleeding Disorders Center (NRBDC) at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. She is one of two NP s providing specialized bleeding disorders healthcare and consultation services to patients, covering a geographic area of more than 11,000 square miles. Telemedicine was initiated in 2010, connecting patients to distant physician specialists. Margaret has presented at local, state and national conferences and has had her telemedicine research presented at an international conference. Ms. Hall earned a Public Health Education degree from Central Michigan University, Nursing degree from Wayne State University, and an Advanced Practice Nursing degree from Michigan State University. She practices at Suttons Bay Medical Clinic and at Munson Medical Center. Lisa Kent, BSMT REMEC Specialist, Munson Medical Center Lisa Kent earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and completed her Medical Technology Clinical Internship at Sault Area Hospital (formerly Plummer Memorial Hospital) in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada. She currently holds the position of Video Conference Support Specialist for the REMEC TeleHealth Network office at Munson Medical Center. Lisa is also the Project Manager for several grant-funded projects including the March of Dimes Maternal Fetal Telemedicine Clinics projects in Cadillac and Alpena and the USDA/Rural Utilities Services Grant project. She is an active member of the Upper Midwest Telehealth Resource Center s Quarterly Conference and Special Interests groups, the Telemedicine Charter Project committee, and the Munson Employee Activities Committee. Lisa is actively involved in community services through Quota International, as a Traverse City Club past-president and current Board Member and through her lifetime membership in the Girl Scouts of America.

5 LuAnn Labian, MD Pediatrician, Traverse Area Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic LuAnn Labian, MD is a pediatrician at Traverse Area Pediatric and Adolescent Clinic in Traverse City, MI. She earned her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Labian completed her Residency at Nationwide Children s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and is Board Certified in Pediatric Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been practicing pediatric medicine in northern Michigan since Susan Woolford, MD, MPH Pediatric Medicine, University of Michigan Health System Susan J. Woolford, M.D, M.P.H., is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Comprehensive Weight Management Center and a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Child Health Evaluation and Research (CHEAR) unit in the Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Michigan. Dr. Woolford earned her medical degree at Michigan State University where she also completed her residency and chief residency. After several years in general pediatric practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan she came to the University of Michigan where she completed her MPH and a fellowship in Health Services Research. Her research interests focus on the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity with an emphasis on physician-patient communication related to behavior change. 6 Accreditation and Credit Designation Statements AMA Munson Medical Center is accredited by the Michigan State Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AOA Munson Medical Center designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM.
