2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 16, 2017 Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) and The University of California present the inaugural UC National Public Service Conference Civil Rights in the 21 st Century Oakland, CA Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), California's premier legal resource provider, is excited to partner with the University of California in planning a public interest law conference convening four participating law schools: Berkeley, Davis, UC Irvine, and UCLA, to be held in September at UCLA. The conference will bring together over 500 diverse UC law students and young professionals and is designed to expose them to the wide array of issues around the inaugural theme: Civil Rights in the 21 st Century. Stemming from the University of California's Public Service Fellowship, which provides over $4.5 million annually to students interested in public interest law at four co-hosting schools (UCI Law, UCLA Law, UC Davis School of Law, and Berkeley Law) the conference will be the capstone experience for the first group of summer and post-grad UC Presidential Fellows. CEB, with deep connections to the legal community in California will be co-hosting and organizing the sessions for the conference, Kelly Lake, CEB's Executive Director says, "As our nation continues to evolve lawyers and the legal profession are playing an increasingly important role in protecting civil rights and serving the public good. This conference speaks to CEB's mission of public service and training the legal leaders of tomorrow." The conference will have five keynote speakers and 18 breakout sessions at UCLA's Luskin Conference Center Saturday, September 23, and Sunday, September 24, Breakouts will be diverse, addressing everything from law and organizing to homelessness to immigration. UC President Janet Napolitano, Erwin Chemerinsky, Dean at Berkeley Law; Peter Neufeld, the co-founder of The Innocence Project; Marielena Hincapie, the executive director at the National Immigration Law Center; Jennifer L. Mnookin, Dean at UCLA Law, Kevin Johnson, Dean at Davis School of Law, and Song Richardson, Interim Dean at UC Irvine School of Law will all be featured keynotes.
