24 Considerations Create Categories / Definitions for Public Art on Campus Exterior Objects o sculptures on permanent bases - figures, contemporary art, color/form displays set into spaces) Interior Objects o mobiles, commissioned paintings, sculpture Integrated with Exterior Architecture o applied art, e.g. mosaics, light sculptures, reliefs, friezes o architectural elements, e.g. building entrances, bridge connectors - freestanding and collaborative design with project architects Integrated with Interior Architecture o functional art (building directories, art that defines specific spaces in the building) o applied art (as above) - art applied to interior walls, floors, ceilings Environmental Art (Integrated with Landscape) o 'imbedded art' - placed with landscape to enhance landscape qualities o 'land form' art - e.g. creative labyrinths, meditation garden spaces o landscape art forms - e.g. to frame views, to provide seasonal displays for special interests, to emphasize landscape features with lighting Gateways o For example, sculptural/symbolic elements that are integrated with wayfinding to identify arrival points approaching the campus o light/stone/and landscape elements that are combined to signify campus entrances and 'districts' within the campus UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT CAMPUS MASTER PLAN DRAFT DECEMBER 11,
