1 ISIT SUMMER SCHOOL Programme Course 1: French as a Foreign Language 23 hours Credits: 2 ECTS Teacher: Brice Poulot Brice Poulot is the Head of ISIT s French Department. He teaches French as a Foreign Language at various institutions, including Université Paris III, the Institut Catholique de Paris, and the Ecole Militaire. Having studied a degree in language engineering and teaching of French as a Foreign Language at Université Paris III Sorbonne, he is currently preparing a doctoral thesis on French in a military context. Course content: The ISIT Summer School programme is resolutely interactive and communication-oriented. Drawing on the latest research on language pedagogy, and particularly the task-based and communicative approaches, the programme emphasises oral participation and interactivity. At the same time, it does not neglect the fundamentals, devoting due time and attention to grammar and vocabulary. The teaching and learning materials focus on the culture and heritage of France and Paris, in a bid to help students learn about and explore Paris and the surrounding area. The Summer School helps students work on the four key skills writing, reading, speaking and listening as well as exploring French culture and heritage. Students will be divided into groups according to their language level.

2 Course 2: French Culture and Civilization 23 hours Credits: 2 ECTS Teacher: Christelle Faffin Christelle Faffin studied language pedagogy and bilingual (French/English) journalism. She teaches journalistic writing and media at Université de Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle, as well as giving English classes at prestigious business schools such as EDHEC. She spent 11 years writing for French magazines in Los Angeles and also works as an editor for French publisher Gallimard. 3 Specialised course (to choose from 3 modules) Module 1: Introduction to Intercultural Management 14 hours Credits: 1 ECTS Teacher: Michel Dalonneau A graduate of the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, Michel Dalonneau works as an international business development consultant, specializing in particular in Japanese culture, for the company Itinéraires Interculturels. He is also a part-time teacher at ISIT, as well as giving classes within MBA programmes and at business schools on intercultural management, international marketing and also Asian and Japanese cultures. He is the author of Bien communiquer avec vos interlocuteurs japonais (La Plaine Saint-Denis: AFNOR Editions, 2012). Lesson 1: Introduction Students will visit Paris, taking photos for an Instagram feed on the theme of the unexpected, stereotypes, prejudices and intercultural encounters Lesson 2: The fundamentals of intercultural relations The Instagram photos will be used to highlight the barriers created by our attachment to stereotypes and prejudices (group work). Lesson 3: Intercultural relations and business Globalization and the illusion of increasingly standardized behaviour Lesson 4: Intercultural relations and careers This class focuses on the areas of business in which intercultural skills are advantageous, examining a few specific examples of the impact of these practical skills (marketing, HR, etc.) Lesson 5: Intercultural relations and management

4 Module 2: Interculturalism and Law 14 hours Credits: 1 ECTS Teacher: Jimena Andino Dorato Jimena Andino Dorato is a qualified lawyer who graduated with honours from UB- Argentina and has a Masters in Business Law from UP-Argentina. She is a researcher (Centre de Recherche Paul-André Crépeau - McGill-Canada), teacher (UBA, UB, UCES and UP-Argentina, ISIT and ICP -France), Masters coach (SLAC-Brazil) and Interculturalist (member of SIETAR, The Society for Intercultural Education Training and Research). Jimena combines her professional experience in four countries and across four languages by building interdisciplinary and intercultural bridges, accompanying and training people through coaching, professional training and university education. Lesson 1: Introduction. Through interactive exercises supported by theory, students will explore fundamental notions of interculturalism in relation to the legal World. Lesson 2: French Law Foundations. This class focuses on the French legal ingenuity and its intercultural impact. Students will visit emblematic monuments in Paris celebrating the creation of famous examples of French legislation such as the Declaration of Human and Civil Rights of 1789 or the Napoleonic Code. Lesson 3: Interculturalism and Human Rights. Universalism, relativism and values. Debates will focus on creative and sustainable ways of analysing Human Rights in the XXI Century. Lesson 4: Interculturalism and Negotiation. Negotiating in a globalized World can be destabilizing. In this class, students will develop their intercultural communication skills to increase success and fulfilment in negotiations. Lesson 5: Interculturalism, and Conflict Management. Law, conflict and culture are closely related. This class focuses on raising awareness about conflict management styles and intercultural ways of approaching the matter.

5 Module 3: International organizations and multinational companies 14 hours Credits: 1 ECTS Teacher: Eckart von Malsen Eckart von Malsen, a German national, has been admitted to the bar in both Munich and Paris where he practices in a law firm. He has worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Central America and the Western Sahara and as a lobbyist with the EU institutions.
