2 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT THE 11th ANNUAL TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN LEADERSHIP PRAYER BREAKFAST WILL TAKE PLACE THURSDAY, JANUARY 25 TH AT BRADENTON AREA CONVENTION CENTER. THE EVENT BENEFITS TAKE STOCK IN CHILDREN WHICH IS CELEBRATING OVER 20 YEARS OF SCHOLARSHIPS, MENTORS, AND HOPE. The 11 th Annual Take Stock in Children Leadership Prayer Breakfast is taking place at the Bradenton Area Convention Center at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, January 25 th, This year s keynote speaker will be acclaimed collegiate basketball coach and writer, Mike Jarvis. Take Stock Manatee Scholars at various points in their academic careers will also share their stories. This event attracted 800 participants last year making this the largest seated breakfast event in Manatee County. We hope to increase to 1000 participants this year. Local business and community leaders, as well as elected officials are always present at this event. An 8.5 x 11 Souvenir program is produced and distributed to all participants. Keynote Speaker, Coach Mike Jarvis, was born on April 11, 1945 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1968 he earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and in 1984 he received a Master of Education Degree from Boston University. Coach Jarvis led Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts to three consecutive Division I State Championships while compiling a nearperfect record of 77-1, and coaching future Hall of Famer, Patrick Ewing. In 25 years as a Division I head coach he guided Boston University, George Washington University, St. John's, and Florida Atlantic to 14 post season tournaments that included two trips to the Sweet Sixteen, one to the Elite Eight, and the NIT post season Championship in In 1993, Mike Jarvis Sr. and JR. made NCAA history when they became college basketball's first African American coaching team. That same year they led The George Washington University to their first NCAA appearance in 30 years and a trip to the Sweet 16. Coach Mike Jarvis ended his high school and collegiate coaching career in 2014 with an overall head coaching record of In that same year, Coach Jarvis was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in Leadership & Ministry from the South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary.
