2 PREFACE August 9 The tenth annual Graduate School Data Book includes a collection of information designed to answer frequently asked questions about Illinois State University s Graduate School. The information for Fiscal Year 9 is organized in major sections: overview, programs, degrees conferred and resources, reference, and definitions. An appendix offers information on the interpretative data used to score reports and an institutional profile from the Survey of Earned Doctorates. Illinois State University began offering master s degree programs in 94; doctoral work was introduced in 96. In Fiscal Year 9, the University offered 4 master s programs (including the Master of Fine Arts and the Master of Business Administration), eight doctoral programs (Biological Sciences, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, English Studies, Mathematics Education, School Psychology, Special Education, and Doctor of Audiology), a Specialist in School Psychology, and eleven graduatelevel certificates. 91 REFERENCE UNIVERSITY DEFINITIONS Admission Grade Point Average: To be admitted to a master's degree program, a student must have at least a.8 grade point average, on a four point scale, for the last 6 hours of undergraduate work. Census Day: The University s official date for enrollment. The first day of class following the th day of class in each semester. Certificates: Illinois State University currently offers three types of certificates at the graduate level: Graduate Certificate (GC): Requires a minimum of nine but no more than 7 semester hours of graduate courses beyond the bachelor s degree. This type of certificate is not approved/reviewed by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate (PBC): Requires a minimum of 8 semester hours of graduate courses beyond the baccalaureate degree, but less than required for a masters degree.
