Huntington is an affluent suburban community with a diverse ethnic population. Average household income: $114,742 with 4.6% below the poverty level. Diverse ethnic population: 85% White, 11% Hispanic, 4% Black. Our congregation s mission field is Long Island. We are in the suburbs of New York City. Our numbers have decreased to 178 since our 2004 census of 242 members. Central has continued to carry on with most of its previous ministries despite the reduced membership. The worship service at Central has evolved over the years into a comfortable blend of traditional organ music with the choir singing sacred music and contemporary music provided by the Praise Band. The Worship Committee continues to consider various alternatives of worship styles and services to attract others in the community as well as to meet the needs of our congregation. Attracting young adults and families is a top priority. In a culture with competing time constraints, this remains a challenge. Worshiping God in spirit and in truth remains our main focus. There is an active core of members willing and able to follow leadership in the service of our Lord God.
