Career Counselling programme. Arranged by Dept. Of Microbiology Asutosh College. 35 SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans Strengths: The department from the beginning has been blessed with the efficient academicians from diverse fields of expertise and research background which includes Botany, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Genetics and Immunology. The main focus for all the faculty members is to create a lucid scientific background for students which will help them in their future research or lab based job profiles. Apart from regular lectures the department expose students with new smart class based studies where topics are clarified using animations and study related videos. The department has a collection of all the modern instruments needed for successful learning of present day Microbiological scenario. Weaknesses: Due to vast academic activities of the college at times getting class rooms with adequate space becomes difficult. High student to teacher ratio also sometimes makes it difficult as per individual care is concerned. Opportunities: Since apart from regular syllabus oriented practical s we expose students with various interesting project works where they get the flavour of research at UG level. A separate 693
12 Challenges: Future plans: laboratory could be created to take this initiative in a broader level so that many interested students can be given such opportunities. Departmental teachers are constantly in process of getting projects from various funding agencies which will enhance the departmental research as well help procuring new and advanced instruments. The department always emphasise on research based learning for students so that they grow interest for research in future to serve the society better from the Microbiological perspective. The department would like to open Post graduate course in near future. The department is also interested to tie up with industry so that the students can get chance there for job and research.
