1 MSC PROGRAM ANNUAL REPORT The MSC program has a comprehensive evaluation plan for assessing both the program and student outcomes. This report is designed to provide prospective students, employers, and site supervisors with up-to-date information about our program. In this annual report you will find information regarding graduation rates, NCE and Praxis pass rates, and employment rates. In addition, you can see demographic characteristics of our students and where they are employed after graduation. As part of our evaluation plan, we conduct an annual assessment of both program and student outcomes. The most recent annual program assessment report is included. All four graduated successfully.
3 Placement rates are defined as: the number of students who, within 180 days of the day they received their master s degree, obtained employment in the recognized occupation for which they were trained or in a related comparable recognized occupation divided by the number of graduates who are actively seeking employment. 7 ANNUAL INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS REPORT Linkage to Milligan Mission or ESIP: Upon completion of the Master of Science in Counseling program of study (Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling tracks), student will: 1. Think critically about and apply a Christian worldview perspective on human nature including cognitions, behaviors, emotions, relationships, and spirituality. 2. Identify the nature and needs of individuals at all developmental levels. 3. Identify issues and trends in a multicultural and diverse society. 4. Apply group development dynamics, counseling theories, group counseling methods and skills, and other group work approaches. 5. Integrate concepts and theories of professional counseling and consultation process. 6. Demonstrate competency in counseling skills as applied to individuals, families, and groups. 7. Implement appropriate intervention strategies to help alleviate human problems and encourage growth. 8. Identify career development and related life factors. 9. Apply individual and group approaches to assessment and evaluation including data collection, analysis, testing, and interpreting data about human functioning. 10. Distinguish types of research methods, basic statistics, and ethical and legal considerations in research. 11. Integrate all aspects of professional functioning and practice including history, roles, organizational structure, ethics, legal considerations, standards, and credentialing. Unit Mission: The Master of Science in Counseling program at Milligan College will prepare graduates to demonstrate competence in the field of professional counseling in a manner consistent with CACREP Standards and a Christian worldview.
8 Program Objective 1 Means of Unit Assessment Criteria for Success Assessment Results Use of Results The Master of Science in Counseling program at Milligan College will seek CACREP accreditation Program will apply for CACREP Grant to fund self-study and accreditation process (3 year grant totally $9,000) Grant awarded Did not apply for grant this year Ineligible to apply for grant once application submitted. Program faculty will conduct and write a self-study Ongoing Self-study complete Monitor progress of application for next steps in process. Program faculty will submit a CACREP accreditation application Anticipate December 2016 submission date. Application mailed June Await notification from CACREP accrediting body for next steps. 9 Student Objective 1 Means of Unit Assessment Criteria for Success Assessment Results Use of Results Upon graduation from the program, students will demonstrate professionallevel knowledge and competencies necessary for practice as a professional counselor. COUN 520 Theory and Practice of Counseling Counseling skills video assignment rubric (3 rd of 3 video assignments) 90% of students will score at least 45 out of 50 possible points on Qualtrics Student Assessment Survey for COUN % of students scored at least 180 out of 200 possible points (90%) on the 3 rd of 3 Counseling Skills video assignments (scored with counseling skills rubric). NOTE: Two students in this cohort failed the course will a grade of B-. Students are required to earn a grade of at least B to pass any core curriculum course in the MSC program. Due to the less than desirable performance of students on this year s assessment as well as the failure of two students in this cohort who will repeat the course, the counseling faculty developed an additional core curriculum course to be taken by all Clinical Mental Health concentration students COUN 510 Introduction to the Counseling Profession, which will address (among other things) basic counseling skills, the role and function of a licensed professional counselor and state licensure requirements. COUN 510 Introduction to the Counseling Profession is part of core curriculum for Clinical Mental Health concentration beginning Fall COUN 560 Assessment and Evaluation Techniques Qualtrics Student Assessment Based on a rubric (1=effective, 2=adequate, 3=effective, 4=outstanding) designed to assess each SLO for COUN 560 based on CACREP 2016 outcome standards, 100% of students will receive a score of 2 or higher and 80% of students will receive a score of 3 as determined by instructors upon completion of this course. Criteria met: SLO 1 M=3.5 SLO 2 M=3.3 SLO 3 M=3.4 SLO 4 M=3.4 SLO 5 M=3.5 SLO 6 M=3.4 SLO 7 M=3.5 SLO 8 M=3.6 SLO 9 M=3.4 Continue to assess SLOs based on rubric. COUN 550 Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice Review of videotaped cases and theoretical ethical dilemmas to apply the ACA Code of Ethics in written form 90% of students in the program will earn an average grade of B or higher on videotaped cases and theoretical ethical dilemmas applied to ACA Code of Ethics in written form 93.3% of students in the program earned an average grade of B or higher on videotaped cases and theoretical ethical dilemmas applied to ACA Code of Ethics in written form. Change focus of criteria for mastery to Qualtrics survey results. COUN 680 Research Methods. Review paper of evidence-based counseling techniques as assessed by an annotated paper with introduction, conclusions, a table, and an oral presentation. 90% of students in the program will earn a grade of B or higher 100% of students in the program earned a grade of B or higher. 11 COUN 648 Evidence Based Counseling Techniques Development of treatment plan for specific counseling case that reflects knowledge of treatment protocols supported by current research as assessed by successful presentation to the class 90% of students in the program will earn an average grade of B or higher on the treatment protocol presentation 14 students enrolled in COUN 680 and 100% of them earned grade of B or higher. This is a summer course so results will not be available until August 2017 Assess for any adjustment to curriculum/instruction upon evaluation of Summer 2017 course completion. Student Objective 3 Means of Unit Assessment Criteria for Success Assessment Results Use of Results Upon graduation from the program, students will meet the academic requirements for licensure as a professional counselor. Students will fulfill all academic requirements prescribed for sitting for the licensed professional counselor exam in Tennessee by completing all required coursework in the program. These requirements include coursework in: Theories of human behavior, learning, and personality Abnormal behavior Theories of counseling and psychotherapy Evaluation and appraisal procedures Group dynamics, theories, and techniques Counseling techniques Ethics Research Clinical practicum or internship National Counselor Examination (NCE) Clinical Mental Health track PRAXIS School track 100% of students who graduate from the program will meet the academic requirements to become a licensed professional counselor in Tennessee (Clinical Mental Health track) or School Counselor in the State of Tennessee (School track) Criteria met. Continue to require excellence in academic performance based on CACREP 2016 standards to inform SLOs in every course taught in the MSC program including elective courses.
12 College will track graduates pass rate for licensure examination (NCE). 100% of students who enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health track in Fall 2015 and after will take the NCE before they graduate. 100% of students enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health concentration Fall 2015 (complete program August 2017/walk for diploma December 2017) are scheduled to take the NCE October Applied to NBCC in June 2017 for graduate students to take the NCE on Milligan s campus October 2017 for current year s qualified graduate students and subsequently, April of their last spring semester for qualified students. 100% of students who graduate from the program will pass the examinations required to become a licensed professional counselor in Tennessee. Continue to monitor NCE pass rate to inform program outcomes and any needed adjustments to curriculum and/or instruction. 100% of students who graduate from the program will pass the PRAXIS, which is required to become a licensed school counselor in the State of Tennessee 100% of students who graduate from the program May or August 2017 (walk for diploma May or December 2017) have taken the PRAXIS Continue to require PRAXIS prior to graduation for students in School Counseling concentration to inform program outcomes and any needed adjustments to curriculum and/or instruction.
13 Student Objective 4 Means of Unit Assessment Criteria for Success Assessment Results Use of Results Upon graduation from the program, students will model excellence in social, personal, and professional ethics. COUN 540 Cultural Diversity in Counseling Empathy assignment (in which students spend time in a culture or a group for which they believe they need to develop additional empathy) 90% of students in the program will receive a grade of B or higher. Criteria met. Change focus of criteria for mastery to Qualtrics survey results. COUN 550 Professional Orientation and Ethical Practice Review of videotaped cases and theoretical ethical dilemmas to apply the ACA Code of Ethics both in oral and written form (case reviews). 90% of students in the program will earn an average grade of B or higher 93.3% of students in the program earned an average grade of B or higher on targeted assignment. Change focus of criteria for mastery to Qualtrics survey results. Milligan College M.S. in Counseling Program Professional Behavioral Competencies Assessment (see attachment) 90% of students in the program will achieve a 2 ( meets expectations ) on all behavioral competencies by the time they are scheduled to begin their internships. Criteria met. Continue to monitor progress of students assessed twice per semester enrolled in the program. Address deficiencies early in the semester and develop remediation plans where appropriate.
