2 Georgia Chapter ACC Annual Meeting Message from the President Welcome to the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Georgia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology! We are once again delighted to be back at the beautiful Ritz Carlton on Lake Oconee. This is the 10th year here which has helped to make this meeting a great family event, and now a tradition for many of us. The Program Committee has worked hard to develop a curriculum encompassing current and relevant topics for your enjoyment. President s Welcome Charles Brown, III, M.D., FACC President, Georgia Chapter of the ACC This year s Friday Symposium will focus on Atrial Fibrillation, including sessions on lifestyle modification, medical management and ablation therapies. Saturday will begin with an update from the National ACC by Dr. Rick Chazal, our current ACC President, who will spend most of the weekend with us. We will follow with a multidisciplinary discussion around mitral regurgitation management, with both cardiology and surgical perspectives. This should be a lively session! We will then continue our simultaneous surgical and medical educational tracks on both Saturday and Sunday. All sessions are open to all attendees. Midday on Saturday we will discuss management of severe hyperlipidemia with an emphasis on the newer agents available for therapy. Saturday evening, in addition to the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Ken Dooley, we will be entertained by the Joe Gransden Orchestra. Sunday s session will start with a discussion of the recently released new biodegradable stent platforms and then will continue with our format of morning breakout sessions, capped by a panel series around how to make appropriate cardiovascular imaging decisions. As always our goals for the weekend remain: Provide information that is relevant and practical to the care of our patients. Create a forum for dialog between fellow ACC members regarding practice issues we face every day. Develop communication between our members and our industry partners. Explore the challenges facing us in the new era of healthcare delivery, as we march along the road from volume to value based services, and understand what the ACC is doing nationally, and what we might be doing locally and statewide. Relax with family and friends. I want to welcome each of you back to our Chapter s fabulous Annual Meeting and I hope to see as many of you as the Ritz can accommodate. Traditionally, we run out of rooms, so I encourage those of you who plan to attend to register early. Sincerely, Charles L. Brown III, MD, FACC President, GA ACC 2
