4 ART 5000: Book Arts in Venice Jeff Abshear May 19 to June 10 $5,295 Study the history of books and art in Venice, Florence, Siena, and Cornuda, a village at the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains. See historic sites including the Grand Canal, St. Mark s Square, the Uffizi Gallery, and Michelangelo s David. Work at professional studios including the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Firenze Arti Visive in Florence, and Tipoteca Italiana Fondazione, one of the largest typography museums in Europe. Collaborate in the production of prints, posters, and a limited-edition hand-printed book. Application deadline January 31, 2016 ART 5000: The European Book Tour Jeff Abshear June 14 to July 6 $5,250 Explore Europe studying the history of books and art in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium. Visit historic sites, museums, and libraries, and travel by train through the Swiss Alps. Work at professional studios including Tipoteca in Cornuda, the Basler Papiermühle and Druckwerk in Basel, the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, the Klingspoor Museum in Offenbach, and the Museum of Industry and Textiles (MIAT) in Ghent, to create handmade paper, posters, and other printed works from traditional equipment. 5 3401: Vues d Afrique *** Vincent Desroches April 29 May 8 This course satisfies General Education Area IV: Other Cultures and Civilizations. Travel to Montreal with World Languages and Literatures professor Vincent Desroches to Vues d Afrique, the largest African film festival in North America. Additionally, students will meet artists and leaders of the main francophone immigrant communities in Montreal (Haitian, West and Central African, Maghrebi) to discuss issues pertaining both to their countries of origin and to immigration in Canada. 6 Summer II Offerings 2900: Walt s Pilgrimage: A Journey in the Life of Walter Elias Disney*** Christopher Tremblay July 14 to 22 This unique, biographical road trip will take you from birth to death of the famous Walt Disney. This historical journey will include most of the significant places in Walt's life, including Chicago (IL), Marceline (MO), Kansas City (MO), San Francisco (CA), and the Los Angeles area (CA). Nearly 40 destinations with a connection to Walt will be visited in as much chronological order as possible. This experience will include stops at 2 official Disney museums and Disneyland. We will learn about Walt's struggles, risks and successes through the lens of his impact on American history and culture. This trip offers an exclusive perspective on Disney beyond what most of us know from our own personal Disney experiences. 3990: Field Experience Practicum 4950: Individual Study : Undergraduate Thesis This online course covers all aspects of preparing and completing an honors thesis.
