The UGA high school scholar-athlete class boasted an average 4.0 GPA. Brissie had his leg shattered in WWII and went on to pitch eight years in the Major Leagues. Thompson is executive vice president and chief legal council for PepsiCo and also a UGA school of law professor. Guest speaker Mike Tirico and coach Mark Richt presented the awards. 2 National Capital (DC) Chapter Hosts 7th Annual Banquet at Prestigious Army Navy Country Club Local Fidelity Investments office provides $7,000 in scholarships. Twenty high school scholar-athletes from the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area claimed honors along with Adham Talaat from Gallaudet University for their outstanding achievements. Also pictured is Contribution to Amateur Award winner Willie Stewart. Long-time Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer delivered the keynote speech. Coach Beamer spoke about the character traits that make a person a success on the field and in life. Coach Willie "Stew" Stewart received special recognition for his contributions to the game. Coach Stew retired after more than 40 years of changing the lives of countless young men in the DC area. Chapter president and 2012 Chapter Leadership Award winner Greg Oliver presented the award. The local Northern Virginia office of Fidelity Investments has made a significant three-year pledge to support the chapter's scholarship fund, enabling the chapter to present seven $1,000 scholarships. 3 Tacoma/Pierce County (WA) Chapter Celebrates 37th Annual Banquet Eight high school scholar-athletes each received a scholarship, pushing the chapter's all-time distributions to more than $250,000. 4 Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter Holds 38th Annual Event Thirty-four of the best and brightest scholar-athletes from suburban Boston accepted honors for their achievements during their prep careers. Ethan Peterson from MIT received the Jack Daley Award for Academics, Citizenship, and. A 2012 NFF National Scholar-Athlete, Peterson completed an outstanding career at MIT, and he will begin a PhD program in physics at the University of Wisconsin. Also pictured is his coach Chad Martinovich. State Representative Angelo Scaccia (right) received the Ron Burton Distinguished American Award for his service to the community. Scaccia, who is also a college football official in the ECAC, has been a member of the State House for more than thirty-five years. Chapter board member James Kearney presented the award. Joined by his proud parents, scholar-athlete Nick Peabody from Barnstable High School earned first team All-State accolades at quarterback, leading his team to the state championship. Peabody will take his talents to Princeton University in the fall.
