2 Learning and Performance Objectives: This course is designed for critical care specialists, pulmonologists, general surgeons, anesthesiologists, internists and family practice physicians plus pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses in these fields. The intended result is increased knowledge/competence and improved performance and patient outcomes in the management of the critically ill patient. At the conclusion of this course the participant should be able to: Identify the advantages of new modes of mechanical ventilation. Describe recent advances in how antibiotic dosing may be optimized in the ICU setting. Explain the role of nutrition support in critically ill patients. Describe the role of antithrombotic therapies in the ICU setting. Construct a state-of-the-art management plan for status epilepticus.
