Attended by the entire staff of the DMHC last 2 years. DMHC staff also attend other RTC, AETC, and PTC (Part I & II) trainings over the course of the year.

Model STD clinic for the Denver PTC Clinical Branch STD Intensive Courses, and 1-day Clinical Practica are held in the DMHC, allowing students to work one-on-one with an experienced preceptor. Regularly attended by Title X providers throughout the region who provide STD services The Mountain Plains AETC uses the DMHC as a training ground for their Mini-Sabbatical (Level III) program, which provides clinical training for HIV providers. Training venue for Partner Services as the clinicians all work with experienced Disease Intervention Services Staff.

15 Outcomes: 11 DMHC staff members were among those trained at the 2006 cross-tc collaborative Denver STD/HIV Clinical Update. 12 DMHC staff members were among those trained at the 2007 Denver STD/HIV Clinical Update. Denver Clinical PTC trained 42 people in 2006 through their 3-day STD Intensive Course and 7 people through their 1-day STD Clinical Practicum course, both of which include time where students work on-on-one with clinical preceptors in the DMHC. In 2007, 41 students attended the STD Intensive in the DMHC and 4 attended the 1-day Practicum. Between July 2006 and February 2008, the MP AETC sponsored 27 Mini-Sabbatical (Level III) clinical trainings. 39 nurses, 16 dental professionals, 10 physicians, 6 physician assistants, 5 nurse practitioners, and 1 pharmacist from 7 different states received clinical training in HIV care and HIV testing and counseling.

16 Lessons learned: A centralized and integrated STD care clinic can provide a multitude of cross-training opportunities for STD, HIV, and reproductive health clinicians. Despite challenges imposed by distinct funding streams, training objectives, and target populations 3 Denver-area TCs have identified common ground in order to increase the capacity of the clinic and all training centers to provide outstanding integrated STD, HIV, and reproductive health training opportunities. Federal support for collaboration and integration can promote collaboration and leveraging of resources. Additional and ongoing support is invaluable to such efforts. Collaboration provides a training opportunity that would not have been otherwise available or possible. Observing a model of providing integrated STD/HIV/reproductive health care services can be a strong training model for many targeted clinical training audiences.
