The study explores the ways in which REACH helps children develop in literacy, health, and character education, valuing participants voices and everyday narratives Doctoral Research Fellow, Department of Curriculum and Teaching Project: Literacy Teachers Initiative Project Lead: Dr. Jodene Morrell Literacy Teachers Initiative (LTI) is a partnership between the Institute for Urban and Minority Education and Community School District 5, Central Harlem, of the New York City Department of Education. The purpose of LTI is to support Teacher Fellows in developing powerful teaching strategies and innovative literacy classroom practices that increase academic achievement while conducting collaborative action research in their classrooms. Partnership schools included K-6 th grades. Project: Enhancing Emergent Bilinguals Literacy Using Cultural Tools and Technology Project Lead: Dr. María Paula Ghiso This multi-year qualitative study examined how first grade Latina/o emergent bilinguals drew upon cultural tools and technology, such as photography and writing, to engage in literacy practices throughout their communities.
