3 In this session we are focusing on the clinical internships Students in the Master of Divinity Tracks program earn 4-7 credit hours in internships. This requirement varies for dual degree and Master of Theological Studies (MTS-CC) students. Internships are congregational/agency and clinical-based. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

4 Consult with your Academic Advisor There are a number of options for completing the internships which will vary by student and degree program/track Consider your specific needs as you understand them now and as you consider your life beyond seminary. 5 Students on the Pastoral Leadership Track are required to take: TFE 1A and 1B CPE ½ unit or CPC Students on the Adaptive Leadership Track May select TFE 1A&1B May select CPE or CPC Students on the Adaptive Leadership Track (Who enter fall 2018 and beyond) TFE 1A&1B May select CPE or CPC CPE CPC Orientation Spring

6 If you are taking CPC for your summative requirements, note that the requirement is 2 courses of CPC in two (2) different types of clinical settings at two (2) different locations (3 credit hours for each course) CPE CPC Orientation Spring

9 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) SUPV532 Nationally Accredited program with certified chaplains (ACPE and CPSP) Completion results in professional certification. [Qualifies intern to advance to second tier of chaplaincy training] CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) SUPV522 Sites with an on site staff chaplain. Qualifications reviewed and chaplain approved by Supervised Ministries Program created and accepted for completion of requirements at PTS. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

10 To begin for CPE or CPC you must have Completed at least 18 credit hours Completed Foundations of Pastoral Care and Counseling or Intro to Pastoral Care or Holistic Habits for Ministry Completed Nurturing Spiritual Life and Charcter I or Spiritual Formation or Pastor as Person or Completed Systematic Theology and Ethics : Vision of Community or Systematic Theology and Ethics:Reign of God CPE CPC Orientation Spring

11 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) One full CPE unit = minimum 400 hrs. = 6 PTS credit hours (4 PTS units of credit) (minimum of 300 clinical hrs. & minimum of 100 educational hrs.) ½ CPE unit = minimum 240 hrs. = 3 PTS credit hours (minimum of 180 clinical hrs. & minimum of 60 educational hrs.) CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) All CPC work = minimum 200 hours (minimum 150 visitation/minimum 50 instructional)= 3 PTS credit hours CPE CPC Orientation Spring

14 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) ACPE information, applications, etc., available online. & CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Student locates a site and negotiates terms of the educational experience with approved chaplain supervisor. Site directory available from SMO. New sites must be approved by Supervised Ministries. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

15 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Contact site & discuss process with chaplain. obtain application and pay all necessary fees. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Contact site & discuss details of internship with chaplain. No external program tuition for this program. Complete any clinical site requirements (ex. background checks, immunizations, etc.) & ask about associated fees. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

16 Relevant health and immunization records Tuberculosis test Criminal background checks and clearances Orientation and training Requirements set by the clinical site must be completed before the intern is allowed to begin the internship. Interns may not have access to patients/clients/residents served by the clinical site until the requirements are fulfilled. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

17 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Visit Supervised Ministries office first to register and to confirm approved site. Enroll in course with Advisor & Registrar. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Visit Supervised Ministries office first to register, to obtain a CPC Syllabus, to confirm approved site and. Enroll in course with Advisor & Registrar. 18 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Begin internship as advised. All work done with chaplain supervisor at the CPE site. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Begin internship as advised. Required assignments must be completed for both Supervised Ministries office & the Chaplain/Supervisor. CPE CPC Orientation Spring

19 CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) Forward all evaluations to SMO. End of internship evaluation(s) determine Credit or No Credit. Forward proof of fees paid to site, if requesting reimbursement, to SMO at end of experience. Grade earned after receipt of all evaluations indicating satisfactory completion of requirements. CPC (Clinical Pastoral Care) Forward evaluations and completed requirements to SMO. Grade earned after satisfactory completion of hours, assignments, and evaluations. End of experience evaluation(s) and work submitted determine Credit or No Credit CPE CPC Orientation Spring
