Developed the national With Every Heartbeat is Life training program for lay health and community health workers. Monitored the With Every Heartbeat is Life pilot program with two grantees from HRSA-funded Community Health Centers. Planned, developed, and implemented other national education initiatives that provided for rapid transfer of research-based health information to professional, patient, and public audiences. 8/03-7/04 Health Educator II Brocker Health Center Developed, implemented, coordinated, facilitated and evaluated student health promotion programs addressing minority and men s health issues. Provided individual health counseling for HIV/STI prevention, nutrition, relationships and stress reduction. Created college HIV prevention campaign with local and regional HIV organizations. Organized University area component of the city-wide Taking It To The Streets HIV prevention and treatment campaign in which 6 volunteers reached 217 people in 4 hours. Wrote and received funding from the American College Health Association for an HIV prevention grant. 2

3 7/04-7/06 Emerging Leaders Program U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, Division of Research and Training Activities(DRTA) (7/05-7/06) Coordinated the Minority Health and Health Disparities Internship Program. Established and maintained collaborations between 27 NIH Institutes and Centers and minority serving internship programs: Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), National Advancement for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO), Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS), and Directors of Health Promotion and Education (DHPE/CDC). Organized welcome and culmination programs for interns. Planned professional development seminars related to Federal careers. Assisted with cooperative agreements between NIH and internship programs. National Institutes of Environmental Health, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Office of the Deputy Director, Education and Biomedical Research Development (1/06-4/06) Assisted the Director of the Office of Education and Biomedical Research Development with planning and coordinating the Intercultural Cancer Council s 10th Biennial Symposium on Minorities, the Medically Underserved & Cancer. The Symposium attracted close to 900 undergraduate and graduate students, medical, academic and other health professionals from across the United States including Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Alaska. Participated in three, K-12 outreach programs which reached over 1,000 students, parents, and teachers. Co-evaluated the Incarcerated Women Interested in Learning and Living (I WILL) Program, a health education program sponsored by the Susan G. Komen NC Triangle Affiliate. Researched various topics on outreach efforts in health disparities, environment and minority health, and minority health research and training programs which led to increased knowledge and understanding of the Federal government health promotion process. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Assistant Secretary for Public Health Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana SERT, ESF-8 (10/05-11/05) Recruited as the Personnel Accountability Liaison for the Louisiana Secretary s Emergency Response Team (SERT) in Baton Rouge, due to diverse interpersonal skills, attention to detail and organizational skills. Managed personnel accountability information for approximately 2,500 civilians and Commissioned Corps Officers deployed by the Department of Health and Human Service during Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Developed standard operating procedures and flow charts for collecting personnel accountability data. Communicated with Commissioned Corps Officers, serving in supervisory positions, to develop an accurate database of deployed personnel. Attended Section Chiefs meetings on behalf of my supervisors and provided situational 3

Invited to accompany the SERT Commander to a Hurricane Katrina After Action regional nurse s meeting to gain knowledge about the challenges faced by first responders during natural disasters. Invited to participate in a needs/asset assessment tour of New Orleans. Collaborated with MITRE contractors to compile pre and post Katrina demographic data for ASPHEP senior staff. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Capacity Building Branch, Training & Development Team (4/05-7/05) Assisted with planning and coordinating the 2005 Educator/Trainer Network (ETN) Meeting. Revised ETN abstract proposal, abstract reviewer, and scoring documents. Developed ETN participant evaluations. Analyzed comprehensive, science-based HIV prevention curricula for trainer competencies. Participated in CDC s Training of Trainers (TOTs) courses. Attended domestic and international HIVrelated seminars. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary, Office on Disability (1/05-4/05) Assisted the Deputy Director with planning and implementing the Office on Disability s Federal-State Summit Addressing Children with Co- Occurring Developmental Disabilities and Mental/Substance Abuse Disorders. Co-wrote a white paper on the healthcare needs of persons with disabilities who are people of color. Addressed constituent and other disability related issues from across the country. Attended meetings for the President s Committee on Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Open Door Forums, New Freedom Initiative, and Medicare/Medicaid policy seminars. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary, Office of HIV/AIDS Policy (OHAP), The Leadership Campaign on AIDS (TLCA) (10/04-1/05) Planned, implemented, and coordinated World AIDS Day HIV testing and counseling for Federal employees in the DC Metro, Rockville and Baltimore areas; as well as regional Office of Public Health Services locations with representation on the World AIDS Day Interagency Workgroup. Partnered with the District of Columbia Department of Health and community based organizations to offer HIV counseling and testing. Collaborated with BETAH Associates and Mosaica (government contractors) to develop promotional/awareness resources for World AIDS Day. Attended the President s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) meeting. Assisted with planning the Islamic Leaders Forum on HIV/AIDS. 4

5 National Institutes of Health, National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, Division of Research and Training Activities(DRTA) (8/04-10/04) Developed a performance-based three year action and operational plan for capacity building and training component for DRTA; which included measurable objectives, expected outcomes, timeline, strategies to implement legislation into appropriate program initiatives, and strategies to increase the number of trained researchers focusing on eliminating health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities and the medically underserved. Conducted a comprehensive assessment of health disparities programs; which included a compendium of NIH external and internal training programs focusing on eliminating health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities.
