Having a background as a nursing assistant through college and medical school and research experience during graduate training, plus a year of training in Pathology, my perspective is unique: a wealth of experience gained from my practice experiences, both academic and private. I am able to administer a clinic, teach students and residents, clinically and surgically, and have experienced the construction of a practice from the ground up and all that this entails, from business plans to loans, purchasing, marketing, etc. I have both the experience and credibility to enhance the quality of practice and education of others. My clinical interests primarily involve the practice of Ophthalmology and medical education. As a Cornea trained surgeon, I receive many referrals for my expertise in anterior segment. Since I no longer teach at the VA in Boston, I started to engage in medical student teaching at Tufts University Medical School and volunteered at MEEI, prior to being hired in a permanent position. Nonclinically, I have a great interest in the care of our nation s Veteran population. My graduate school project focused on VA Healthcare reform and ways to integrate VA health into mainstream US healthcare. I still am in contact with VA leadership. In summary, having been involved with Harvard teaching hospitals over the course of my career, it is my hope and intention to contribute to and be an example of a standard of excellence. 8
