The Augenstein Alumni Center Dale Augenstein ( 81) President WKU Alumni Association National Board of Directors & Chair of the Alumni Center Fundraising Campaign Owner of Steamer Seafood, Hilton Head Island, SC BUILDING OUR FUTURE Each day our alumni are becoming more integrally involved in the life of WKU. Alumni serve on committees, recruit students, provide expertise on new initiatives and contribute their time and financial resources. Yet, our campus does not have a place for us to call home. The Alumni Association is pleased to truly create a focal point for our alumni and visitors to enjoy. The Augenstein Alumni Center is a place that brings the history and traditions of the University to life and instills the WKU Spirit in future generations of Hilltoppers. Your participation in the Alumni Center Campaign is essential. From Donor Wall pledges fulfilled for as little as $17 per month to naming opportunities throughout the facility, we hope you will take part in this exciting project.
WKUAA-topper-bro_Layout 1 6/9/11 2:23 PM Page 3 WKU Gateway to Downtown Bowling Green Block 12 of the TIF (Tax Incremental Financing) District sits next to the WKU campus and is defined as the area bordered by Center Street, 14th Street, Kentucky Street and 13th Street. The Augenstein Alumni Center is the centerpiece of the Gateway and creates a hub for activity adjacent to the campus. The Gateway provides a perfect blend with other quality of life enhancements, such as the Bowling Green Ballpark, Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center and Circus Square Park. Block 12 - Parking Structure with Residential and Commercial Wrap Additional development on the block includes a parking garage, residential units, retail space and inviting public space. The garage holds more than 450 vehicles, as well as office space for the WKU Police Department. Apartment living, as well as a market, coffee shop and WKU Store location wrap the parking garage, providing an attractive and inviting environment for residents and visitors alike.
Courtyard Plaza The Courtyard Plaza is a welcoming outdoor space connecting the Augenstein Alumni Center with the WKU Store, coffee shop, market and parking garage. The Plaza holds a statue of Big Red, graduating class time capsules, a fountain and seating, making it an excellent space for a casual rendezvous and outdoor events of all types. The Augenstein Alumni Center The Augenstein Alumni Center, located at the corner of Center and 14th Streets, provides much-needed space for visiting alumni and the WKU community to hold meetings, social events and educational programs. Many functions are accommodated in a variety of venues accessible to virtually any size audience. The Alumni Center also houses the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving, the Office of Advancement Services and the WKU Foundation.
Inside the Augenstein Alumni Center Atrium The Atrium is a comfortable venue on campus for receptions, entertainment and social gatherings. The Atrium is a welcoming two-story space with seating, the Farmers National Bank Exhibit Gallery, the Sinks Grand Fireplace, the Grand Staircase and the Atrium Bar. It adjoins the WKU Museum and receives visitors to the Augenstein Alumni Center. Atrium Bar The Atrium Bar offers an attractive space for serving during various events. Outfitted with fine countertops and cabinetry, the Atrium Bar adds flair to an already inviting and comfortable space. Sinks Grand Fireplace The Tim ( 78) and Darlene ( 79) Sinks Grand Fireplace is a twostory stone fireplace located in the Atrium of the Augenstein Alumni Center. Adding to the comfortable feel of the space, the Fireplace evokes a sense of home in the Alumni Center. First Floor
Showcasing the Spirit Robertson and Feix Grand Ballrooms The Lee Robertson ( 50) and Jimmy Feix ( 53) Grand Ballrooms are the heart of the Augenstein Alumni Center. These spacious rooms, adorned with rich WKU carpeting and fine fixtures, are used for a range of events, including business meetings, lectures, social gatherings, formal dinners and wedding receptions. When combined, the Ballrooms can accommodate up to 300 dinner style and as many as 1,000 theatre style. WKU Museum The WKU Museum is a unique space that depicts the traditions and spirit of WKU. It contains memorabilia from the rich history of WKU, reflecting excellence and evoking a sense of pride for all who pass through its door. This room represents the past, present and future of the institution.
Inspiration & Education Atrium Overlook & Hall of Inspiration The Hall of Inspiration is located off the second floor mezzanine and serves as space to recognize WKU s Hall of Distinguished Alumni, as well as a place to celebrate the many contributions to society made by WKU alumni, faculty, staff and students. Second Floor Watkins Executive Auditorium The Hays Watkins ( 47) Executive Auditorium offers tiered seating, workspace, and electric and network connections for up to 75 guests. With comfortable seating and excellent audio-visual capacity, this space welcomes all prospective students to WKU and provides a location for classes, speakers and guest lectures.
History & Leadership Owsley Library The Bob ( 58) and Martha Jean ( 51) Owsley Library is a beautiful room and one of the most charming on the entire WKU campus, featuring wood flooring, floor to ceiling wood casework, area rugs and comfortable seating. The Owsley Library houses literature about WKU, works authored by WKU alumni, faculty, staff and students, as well as videos of WKU s Hall of Distinguished Alumni and previous issues of the Talisman, Business University Towers, College Heights Herald and WKU ALUMNUS, ALUMNI and WKU SPIRIT. Guillaume Executive Board Room The Rick ( 65) and Ann ( 65) Guillaume Executive Board Room is the premiere choice on campus for board and committee meetings. The room includes a variety of multimedia capabilities, fine carpeting and finishes. There are outstanding views of Van Meter Hall and the top of campus via French doors that open onto the second floor veranda.
Elegance with a touch of home Executive Dining Room The Executive Dining Room is a beautiful setting with a custom WKU dining table seating up to 14 people, a custom stained glass chandelier, rich fixtures, cabinetry and WKU china. A private space, the Dining Room is the perfect location for small social gatherings, meetings and luncheons. Mutchler Living Room The Mutchler Family Living Room provides a unique home environment with informal seating (couches, loveseats, armchairs, etc.), the Greater Louisville Alumni Chapter Fireplace, a television and a wet bar. The Living Room is ideal for receptions, luncheons, open houses, watching sporting events and other intimate gatherings of up to 50 people.
How you can help Your pledge can be fulfilled for as little as $17 per month, so it is truly a grassroots effort in which all alumni can participate. Donald Smith ( 94) Executive Director, WKU Alumni Association Throughout WKU s distinguished history, our alumni have played an important role in enhancing and strengthening the WKU Spirit. Now, we hope alumni and friends will eagerly help us celebrate the past and plan for the future as we embark on this new venture. The Alumni Center is a much needed and welcomed addition to the WKU campus; a facility for our 90,000 alumni and many University friends to proudly call home. Your participation in the Augenstein Alumni Center Campaign is essential. Please join other members of the WKU family in ensuring this beautiful facility is a fixture on the WKU campus for future generations. All donors making gifts of $1,000 or more will be permanently and prominently recognized in the Augenstein Alumni Center on a donor recognition wall.
