1 Spanish Foundation Courses for Business and Marketing Studies ESIC offers 4 foundation courses in Seville which prepare students to acquire knowledge of the Spanish Language and Culture or start a Business and Marketing degree in Spanish. The length of the course depends on the student s initial level of Spanish: I. Spanish Foundation Course 250 II. Spanish Foundation Course 200 III. Spanish Foundation Course 375 IV. Spanish Foundation Course 925 1

3 Spanish Foundation Course week Foundation Course: Basic Spanish The course is designed for students who have a basic understanding of Spanish. It focuses on building oral and written communication skills and on acquiring knowledge of the Spanish Language and Culture. Students who successfully complete this course will get a Spanish level B1. Spanish level required: A2 Target level: B1 Basic Spanish 1. Survival Spanish vocabulary and expressions to help communicate in the most common situations during the first weeks in Spain. 2. Spanish Language structures 3. Spanish Language general vocabulary 4. Spanish language general language skills 5. Spanish culture workshops Duration: 250 hours class plus self study over a period of 10 weeks. (25 hours of class per week plus self study). It focuses on expanding vocabulary and building oral and written communication skills as well as acquiring a greater awareness of the Spanish Language and Culture. Students who successfully complete this course will get a Spanish level B2. Spanish level required: B1 Target level: B2 Course description: Intermediate Spanish 1. Spanish Language structures 2. Spanish language general vocabulary 3. Spanish language general language skills 4. Spanish culture workshops. 5 Spanish Foundation Course weeks Intensive Foundation Course: Spanish for Academic Purposes (Business and Marketing) The course is designed for students who have not demonstrated the minimum level of Spanish required for study in ESIC (level C1) but whose ability to function in a Spanish academic environment can be substantially improved by an intensive 460 hour course. Students who successfully complete this course will be able to start an undergraduate course of study in Business and Marketing. Spanish level required: B2 Target level: C1 Course description: The course prepares students in the Spanish language skills and vocabulary necessary to start a Business and/or Marketing course in ESIC: 1. Spanish for Academic Purposes language skills 1.1 Reading, summaries and note taking 1.2 Writing formal texts for coursework and examinations 1.3 Listening and note taking in class 1.4 Speaking: oral presentations, group discussion and class debate. 2. Spanish for Academic Purposes academic vocabulary 2.1 Vocabulary necessary to understand and discuss the structure and organisation of the teaching programme, evaluation system and the student services offered by ESIC. 2.2 Vocabulary related to the study of mathematics, statistics, psychology, sociology and computing 3. Spanish for Academic Purposes business and marketing vocabulary and key concepts. 3.1 Spanish for Marketing 3.2 Spanish for Economics 3.3 Spanish for Accounting 3.4 Spanish for publicity 4. Spanish culture workshops Duration: 375 hours class plus self study over a period of 15 weeks prior to the beginning of the academic year in ESIC. (25 hours of class per week plus self study).
