Our English language programs are designed to help students develop their language and learning skills to prepare them for success in their future career. The programs are delivered by Monash University English Language Centre. English language programs General English A structured program to suit all levels, this course follows a general English syllabus and it is an ideal way to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for everyday use. English for Academic Purposes The program is designed to prepare students for success in academic study. It develops academic language, problem solving, task-based learning, and research skills they need to accomplish their study goals. English for Specific Purposes The program is designed for students who have specific context-based English requirements. The emphasis is the use of vocabulary and structures that students learn in a meaningful context to reinforce what is taught. Example of topics available: English for Engineering and English for Economics.

2 Beyond the classroom As a Monash College student, you will continue to learn outside the classroom. You can join one of the weekly excursions and visit places of cultural significance, or participate in our on-campus cultural activities that are both fun and engaging. 3 Study Group Global Professionals Program I have had a very excellent experience in Melbourne and I feel that every day I gained many first experiences here. I know more about business conditions here in Australia and it has been really useful for me. To succeed in this international working environment, graduates and professionals require a specific set of skills, knowledge and experience. The Global Professional Programs is designed to help students and working professionals to achieve success in globalised workplaces. Participants in the program have access to topics such as fundamentals of international business practice and the importance of intercultural understanding. They will also gain international workplace experience to build their English proficiency and business skills. Program Structure The program is comprised of four core units and one optional unit. It is taught over five, 20-hour weeks. The program can be customised for a shorter or longer duration. The Global Professionals Program combines training with industry and cultural engagement to reinforce classroom learning with real-life experience. Industry internships of up to 12-weeks can be included and the host city of Melbourne provides many opportunities for intercultural engagement. Core and Optional Units The core units in the Global Professionals Program develop essential skills and knowledge for international careers. Optional units allow the program to be tailored for participants at different stages of their career journey - from university students early in their studies through to working professionals.

Industry and Cultural s Activities Entry requirements A minimum English language standard of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent is required. Applicants wishing to participate in the Industry Placement or University internship require a minimum IELTS of 6.0 or equivalent. 5 Study Group Teacher development The most valuable part of the course was class observation. It allowed me to see different teaching techniques in action and gave me new ideas for my own teaching. We offer two teacher development programs with the focus of developing confidence and a strong working proficiency of English. The programs leverage our expertise in English language study, our experience as educators and our links to researchers and academics at Monash University. Teacher development programs Teachers of English Program The program has been designed to further enhance the practical teaching skills of English as a Foreign Language instructors. It develops participants teaching methodology and practice. English for Teachers Program This program provides teachers with the specific language skills needed to teach their subject area confidently in English.
