1 International School of Bremen Parent Bulletin /18 Cancellation of Jogging Club Please note that the Jogging Club on Thursday, October 12, for Grades 3-5 students will not be taking place due to Ms Haller s absence. It will continue after the Autumn break on 26 October. Please remember to supply your child with clothing appropriate for our North German Autumn weather, such as leggings/jogging pants and functional longsleeved T-shirts. Children s Winter Party On Monday, 23 October, from pm, the PTA has arranged a kick-off event in the Ground Floor Foyer with free balloons, face-painting and a bake sale, promoting ticket sales for this year s Children s Winter Party. The party will take place on 24 November in CinemaxX Bremen, Breitenweg (near the Main Station) and includes a showing of the film Paddington 2. 2 New Date für IGCSE Information Evening The IGCSE Information Evening for Grade 9 students and parents that was planned for 14 September has now been rescheduled to: Tuesday, 24 October 2017, 6.30pm in the Malcolm Davis Hall. Reformation Day - School Closed School will also be closed on 30 and 31 October, celebrating the day, 500 years ago, on 31 October 1517, when German monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses of reforming the church onto the door of the All Saints Church in Wittenberg.. This evening is also open to any new Grade 10 parents and students or those who may have missed the event when in Grade 9. Autumn Holiday School will be closed from 16 October through 20 October. The School Office will be staffed from 9.00am to 2.00pm Monday through Friday. School will start again promptly at 8.00am on Monday, 23 October. Elementary Spirit Week! Felix, Grade 12 Basketball is my CAS activity that I practice four times a week regularly. I usually start off with 15 minutes of warming up and then move on to either learning new tricks, practice the ones I do not feel that confident in or, in most cases, we go straight into the real game. My basketball practice relieves me a lot from school work and is a kind of relaxation because I don t think about anything else at that moment except scoring as many points as possible. It is very important to me that CAS does not have to be just something I have to do, but something I enjoy and love doing. 2 Parent Bulletin 6 October 2017

3 For ELC - Grade 5 Thursday, 26 October pm INTRODUCING... Hugh Shirley US Science Intern Mr Shirley was born and grew up in Santa Clara, California. After finishing high school a few years ago, he moved to Boston to study Biochemistry and French at Northeastern University. He is now entering his third year of college and hopes to graduate and go on to medical school. In his free time, he enjoys swimming, writing articles for his university s newspaper, and spending time volunteering in research labs on campus. He loves to cook and try new restaurants, so coming to Germany for the first time has been a great experience even just for that. He hopes to learn as much German as possible while he is here and to see as much of the area as he can. 6 October 2017 Parent Bulletin 3

On the day, you can explore the full range of opportunities on offer and make informed decisions about your future study and career paths. Last year, 70 % of attendees went on to apply for creative courses. With performance stages, catwalks, demonstration areas and galleries, there s plenty to excite and inspire attendees. What s more, course leaders, university alumni, and industry experts are on hand to answer any questions you might have about academic and working life. During breaks, the students cannot use their mobile phones or go to the Dining Hall, so they must bring their snack and water with them. DEADLINES, FAIRS + TESTS London ExCeL October 2017 Manchester Central Convention Complex November 2017 PSAT Grade 10 This is a reminder that ALL Grade 10 s will be sitting the PSAT exams on 11 October in the Exam Room. This is a serious test and all students should act sensibly throughout. The test will begin at 8.30am in the Exam Room so ALL students must be on time that day. 5 House News House Points Here are this week s results as per the end of Thursday, 5 October Week October 2017 The Results of This Week Due to the short school week, little has happened to change the overall scoring, so we are publishing last week s House Points again in this week s issue. With House Colours Day and the Elementary Dodgeball Tournament coming up next Wednesday, we will certainly see a change in next week s Parent Bulletin. House Clothes House t-shirts (and other good quality house clothing items) can be ordered from the company Meinecke Promotion, situated just north of Bremen. Please go to their website to place your order.
