Studies have shown that students who are involved in extracurricular activities have more academic success. There are many opportunities to be get involved whether in athletics (41 teams in 14 sports) or by joining one of the numerous clubs and organizations. 3 PLEASE HELP US ENFORCE THE SCHOOL POLICIES... DISMISSAL PROCEDURE STUDENTS ARE DISMISSED ONLY AT CLASS CHANGE. Students are permitted to leave school before their regular dismissal only at the written request of a parent or guardian, for a legitimate reason of which the principal shall be the judge. Emergency dismissals must be obtained through the attendance office secretary. A student must have a dismissal slip to leave the school building. Students bringing a written request for dismissal must present it to the attendance office secretary when they arrive at school. If approved, the student s name and time of dismissal will appear on the daily attendance bulletin. In all cases, students are officially dismissed only when they sign out in the attendance office after receiving permission. If they are returning to school, they must also sign in in the attendance office. DISMISSALS COUNT AS ABSENCES FOR THE CLASSES THAT ARE MISSED AND WILL BE PROCESSED IN THE SAME MANNER AS ABSENCES. Students must bring medical or parental documentation to excuse all absences due to a dismissal. Remember: Only five parent notes are accepted each semester. Deliveries of off-campus lunches will not be accepted. If your child does not eat the school lunch, they need to bring their lunch with them in the morning. Students must purchase this card for $5.00. TARDY POLICY Tardies are counted for the entire year. Every student is allowed 5 unexcused tardies to school. Unexcused tardies 6-10 are punishable by one day of detention hall per tardy. Unexcused tardies are punishable by one day in ISS (in school suspension) per tardy. All unexcused tardies over 15 are punishable by one day of OSS (out of school suspension) per tardy. Students who arrive to school before 8:30am are considered tardy to school. Students who arrive to school after 8:30 AM are considered absent from 1st period. Parent notes do not excuse tardies. Only notes from medical or professional agencies will excuse tardies. Students who are tardy to a 2nd -7th period class will receive one-day in detention hall. LATE TO SCHOOL 1. Any student arriving to school after the first period tardy bell rings will follow one of these procedures. 2. Tardy because of late bus arrival Student must have a bus tardy slip indicating arrival time for admittance to a classroom and should go directly to the appropriate classroom. 3. Tardy other than late bus arrival Report directly to your attendance office secretary. Students will not be admitted tardy to a classroom, including Daniel Morgan, without a pass from the secretary. 6 CAREER TALK Our Career Specialist (Mrs. Addie Jones) will be working with our SHS students during the school year to assist students in developing career goals. Students will have the opportunity to job shadow, explore college majors, career clusters and use various websites for college and career planning. Please encourage your seniors to come by her office in the Main Office and schedule a career mapping for their future. Knowledge is Power What s your cluster?
