1 EXTERNAL Volunteer Opportunities Spring 2016 Updated: February 2016 SCHOOL PROGRAMS Marine Educator Wetlab Grade K 12 Programs (English Only) Program Coordinator(s): Dana Turner and Laura van Doormaal, Curriculum Programs Coordinators Teaching visitors (students in Grades K-12) about marine life local to BC and the major Participating in and facilitating safe handling of marine invertebrate animals Outgoing, enthusiastic and self-motivated High level of professionalism and commitment; Experience/patience and/or genuine interest in educating or interacting with children Interest in marine biology Strong English oral communications skills Second language an asset Prior knowledge of marine life and environments and previous experience in marine animal handling and care is an asset but not necessary - training will be provided Adults (19+) Must be willing to team teach with other volunteers Must be able to follow animal handling protocols Must be flexible to the logistical needs of the coordinator 1 weekly shift of four hours Min. 50 hour commitment March end of June 2016 Indoors in wetlab and galleries Tuesday Friday; 9:00am 1:00pm or 10:45am 2:45pm Sunday March 6, 2016 OR Saturday March 12, 2016; 8:30am 4:30pm (Core and Marine Educator training)
