6 Within each lesson a high-quality salon video will demonstrate the skills learners need, with distinct chapters to allow easy navigation. Multiple choice questions pop up throughout each video to ensure the learner has watched and understood the material. Learners who answer incorrectly are given a useful hint and the ability to re-watch the relevant part so that they can reattempt the question. Concise and informative feedback is also provided for each question to consolidate learner understanding. Upon achieving the pass mark for a lesson, learners will be given the option to watch the video without questions, allowing them to revise the material without interruption. Versions of the videos without questions will be available to tutors for teaching purposes. 6

A recent technical issue within the 6008/9-604 Colour and Lighten Hair (CH4) evolve test caused question 4 of the test to display an incorrect question up until 27 th April This issue only affected question 4 of the assessment, it did not affect the rest of the test. The incorrect question has since been removed and all Colour and Lighten Hair (CH4) tests taken from 27 th April 2016 display correctly. Centres must identify any learners that: sat the test between 1 st May 2015 to 27 th April 2016 achieved a pass of 68.29%, and have not yet completed the qualification. 11

Centres may use the question included in the assessment pack to orally question the learner. Evidence of the additional questioning and answer should be included in the learner s portfolio. DfE latest update: KS4 - NOW APPROVED Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies (601/7247/2) To achieve the Level 2 Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies (120). Learners must achieve all three mandatory units. Mandatory: Unit 201 Exploring the world of hair and beauty Unit 202 Science of Hair and Beauty Unit 203 Design in the hair and beauty sector This Technical Award has Performance points and will have a GCSE equivalence. KS4, performance will be measured through attainment and progress in eight subjects. The eight includes: English Double-weighted maths 3 English Baccalaureate subjects: sciences, computer science, geography, history and languages. Three further qualifications from a further range of subjects including vocational qualifications approved for inclusion in the performance tables. This KS4 qualification will be added to the Performance table lists, published by the DfE, this alongside our KS5 Level 2 & Level 3 completes City & Guilds full suite of qualifications for first teaching September 2016 For more information please visit our new TechBac web pages at SFA Important update: The following information from the SFA could have a major impact on the qualifications that you will be delivering to your 19+ learners in September 2016, that are being funded under the first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 Legal Entitlement. If a qualification is not below on the legal entitlement list this does not mean it cannot be funded. It could then be funded through Local Flexibility (Level 2) or Advanced Learner Loans (Level 3). The Legal Entitlement list only relates to those learners, years old, who are accessing funding for their first full Level 2 or 3. 12

The proposed start has now been postponed until 2018/2019. SVQ s Beauty Therapy, Nails & Spa update: Following the sign off of the National Occupation Standards (NOS) in Beauty Therapy in February 2015 we are currently in the process of re-developing our SVQ s for the following qualifications: SVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapy at SCQF level 5 SVQ level 2 in Nail Services at SCQF level 5 SVQ level 3 in Beauty Therapy at SCQF level 6 SVQ level 3 in Nail Services at SCQF level 6 We recently held a launch event in June 2016 and answered questions around what the new NOS looks like, likewise, answered your questions around new assessment material.
